Hi all, I have a problem which I hope you will be able to help with. I adjusted the airflow screw located on the base of one of the OH's Kayfuns this afternoon, and then screwed the attie back onto the Magneto which she is using. Unfortunately the very small grubscrew dropped out of the hole, or unscrewed itself, and has now jammed the attie on the mod by dropping into one of the air grooves on the top of the mod. Despite running a length of thread past the screw to try and screw it into the atty a bit, this has not worked and I am now the not-so-proud owner of a U/S Russian and Magneto mod. Of course the atty won't screw off enough to release the grubscrew from the slot, and it won't even work as it is because the centrepin isn't low enough to make contact. Any suggestions on how I might free up the atty sufficiently to release it from its hopefully temporary prison?

I would as bias to take apart all part to leave the least amount of parts attached to each other as possible...
You might then see a solution or it might make it easier.

The frustrating thing is that it's half-full of Black 'n' Blue!! I'll have a good look in daylight tomorrow. In the meantime her iStick has mysteriously started working again, so not all is lost!! I'll wait for daylight for a picture too @windows although I'm not sure that my camera on my phone will be able to zoom in close enough!

Andy, can you turn the whole thing upside down and try to wiggle the kayfun to get the screw to drop back into it's hole?

Sounds like a tough one that Andy. Is is possible to thread a piece of Kanthal in the magneto air groove then out of the air groove on the other side. If the grub screw threads are still catching it may be possible to screw the grub screw back in a bit at a time by exerting tension on the screw with the kanthal and pulling the kanthal in the direction to screw in.
Don't have a Russian but assume you can strip the tank from above leaving just the deck, can you see the base of the screw through the base like a KFL fill screw ? maybe if you have a really thin and strong earth magnet you could sit it on the grub screw head from the top of the base and screw it upwards.

Is there enough of a gap to thread some kanthal in behind the grub screw and maybe drag it out.

Indeed and some are faster than others I know what you mean. The speed of my typing has always let me down

Worst case my jewelry saw blades are 0.02 mm thick hair thick. If all else fails I can see if I can cut the screw . Anouther option try dental floss its coating might grip the screw enough to spin it up.

If you could form a powerful vacuum in the atty it may pull the screw in just enough as it moved that far out with no turning force applied. Air wouldn't be sufficient, but maybe filling the atty with water and getting a good seal onto a large syringe may work, a vacuum pump would be better but who has one lying about. It's a long shot, but at least it wouldn't damage anything. And possibly putting in a ultrasonic cleaner with the screw upward and intermittently applying the vacuum may be more effective.

Good idea on the ultrasonic may well jiggle it in a smidge.

Blimey, this is suddenly getting technical, with talk of vacuum pumps and USCs!! I think I may try the dental floss in the morning - having had another look with a couple of glasses of wine inside me, I think the screw is still attached 'by a thread'! to the base of the Russian, so may try to screw it back enough to free it from the air groove. I'll report back in the morning, but @djs, don't really want to throw away a brand new atty and a good Magneto that hasn't seen much use!
