hi is anyone using 97% ethanol (rectified spirits) to dissolve/steep volatile flavours from vegetable matter? if so any tips to do so safely? and then mix with pg/vg for vaping?

There are risks with steeping. You will be vaping unknown, untested chemicals. There will be sugar and other non volatile things that gunk instead of vapourising. Using ethanol you will extract oils and risk lipoid pneumonia - only a small risk but probably no warning signs, you feel fine, then one day you feel ill and soon die. People do it and there are commercial ejuices produced this way, I guess they distil and use other methods to isolate the chemicals they want but they still contain untested chemicals.

OK a couple of questions:
1) 97% ethanol, what's in the other 3%? 2) What are you classing as "volatile" flavours? 3) How do you propose to remove the ethanol after steeping?

Wouldn't you be better using a dry herb vaporiser instead?

Wouldn't you be better using a dry herb vaporiser instead? Probably, the only drawback other than cost for a temperature managed built to clinical standards device is that such things scream out druggie and are not exactly discrete either in use or the aroma they generate. tho granted puffing on a splif isnt either..

You might be better off using PG rather than ethanol as the alcohol can remove some of the more bitter components of your desired flavouring. Both CBD and THC are soluble in PG. To be fair though, since you have a condition that is eased by the 'erb you would be better off making 'erb butter and baking brownies or some nice fairy cakes

Im slowly warming to the idea of butter/cooking but am limited to using a tin opener and either slamming things in the oven or nuking things in the kitchen. so it could be a challenge

I would suggest sprinkling some ground herbs into a bowl of muesli. If you like that of course. In fact, sprinkle some on top of a pizza, that works too. Eating the herb has a slower release into your system, so would ward off the headaches for longer. Hope that helps
