I agree with both @scooby & @windows the Shapways stuff is a really good avenue is you can afford them and don't have the tools or basic skills to have a go. I would consider one if they did a small one, but I managed 17x21x38 mm on my first attempt so it is very possible, it was hard to do and a lot of work. I can solder well, but all the other stuff was new to me as I only did a term of metal work at school and never done any at work. I seem to be a throw myself in the deep end and make it work kind of person, that may not suit everyone ant there is a lot to be said about taking smaller steeps and building on your success, but then you have to budget for more mods before you get the one you wanted and that was my main goal.

Oh yes @windows don't get me wrong, they let you see what it's like to put all the bits together in a box, something you don't really get from looking at build pics and vid's. Even though I'd done scale drawings of my Eclipse, it was still like trying to wallpaper your hall through the letterbox when it came to building it.
You must agree though that there's more pleasure to be had from something you've designed and grafted on yourself?

get a solder sucker too, its way too easy to over solder if like me your a novice at the art and a solder sucker lets you try n try n try n try again its also way easier if you tin (solder cover) both bits before you try to join them, cos then its simply join and heat using the solder already coating the 2 bits.. ebay solder sucker

Braid is best used for the removal of large areas of solder. For example if you were soldering to say a battery contact and you apply to much and puddles out to a large area. You can lay the braid on it and it will soak it up.
