Drip tips that is. Stick it on the atomiser, add in a few drops along the side walls of the drip trip.

I either get horrible dry smoke, a faint whiff or a mouthful of sputter. What am I doing wrong?

Drip directly onto the bridge of the atomiser Sam, so plumb centre of your DT . . . between 3 to 5 drops . . . not onto the sides of the DT and then try and vape, there'll be nothing for the atomiser to burn.

And, don't bother trying to drip through the tip Sam, take it off so that you have a better line of sight.

Dripping through anything other than a wide mouthed tip is best left to the experienced

That's where I think the clear drip tips are so useful Jason, I don't ever take a DT off, the clear ones are the best for getting a feel for how much and where to drip.

But, that's just what works for me as I don't like to faff anymore than needs be.

It's the surface tension that gets me everytime....get carried away thinking I'm a crackshot and next thing I cop for a mouthfull of e-liquid.

Yes, a clear DT is definately a better idea

I don't take the DT off either.....a wee gentle blow down there does it for me....a brief press of the button tells you if the juice has gone down (hiss) or not, (no hiss, another blow is needed)

As for everything else in life, once you've been doing it for awhile, it becomes second nature...just keep trying n you'll soon figure it out

Totally agree. Take drip tip off & drip directly onto the wick.

I usually just drip 3 - 4 drops. You generally know when you need to drip again as the flavour changes slightly. Just got to really make sure you don't let the attie get dry.

As with all vaping, it's trial & error. However, you won't go far wrong if you only drip 3 - 4 drops at any one time.

Also, when using a new attie, you need to blow out the primer first onto some tissue, then dry burn for a second or two > drip about 3 drips & puff as you would if you were lighting a pipe. Then you should be good to go.

Well I finally managed a really good direct dripping experience last night - a bauway atomiser and a cherry vape dream tip - you can certainly drip straight through them
Mind you I still think the RDA can't be beat!
