Hi After recent success learning 28awg twisted ribbon dual coil at the Mass Vapour day, I decided to have a try at the CLTv2+ (Infinite) again, using that build. I've put in 11 wraps, 3mm diameter, (1ohm), and put loads of wick and juice in there, due to flames last time through me not using enough juice. It's like a volcano, lol; can't get near it to vape. Tried at 20w at the moment. Even adding in the extra drip trip (pushed it up from inside), I'm not going anywhere near this just yet. Smells divine too ... ukflavours pineapple concentrate is lush. Not the tightest coils, so I'm wondering if 22awg dual, 3mm, 13 wraps, might be good to try, since those coils come out really tight using the coil master. Seeing that comes out at 0.4 ohms, but just watched a GrimmGreen vid that was saying higher ohms is good eg 1.7. EDIT: tried the above different build and can vape it, but unsure what watts to use ... nervous of it generally, but the tighter coil with less wick definitely works. Batteries getting very hot indeed (highest around 30-34w) plus getting pathetic vapour, but great flavour.

Mr just posted a video where he's surprised to find a 24agw 0.4ohm build on an 18350 mech mod is slow to ramp up and is a weak vape GrimmGreen?
Do another build with the 28agw you have 6 wraps per coil on the 2.5mm coiling rod or 8 wraps of 26agw per coil. That should put you somewhere around the 0.5 - 06ohm mark, that'll be fine on the iStick 50w you're using. I prefer to use touching coils in drippers too.
The higher the resistance the lower the power required to heat the coil quickly and the hotter the coil will get, hence why Mr Green had a weak vape and a long ramp up time on his 18350 mech, that battery just doesn't have the juice to heat that low a resistance build properly, he's also pushing the battery into not entirely safe territory with regards to it's amp rating.

Thanks Get Off My Cloud Appreciate advice; his vid's titled re safe vaping too, lol, so I'm glad I posted here! link Might have misunderstood some of it, being a newb. I'll do another build with the stats you've said a bit later on, as your advice is right ... batteries getting far too hot (I added the edit). Just test it on istick, as don't want any leaks on the Sigelei 150w.

nice atty when using watts to power an atty what the coil resistance is makes very little dif to end result.ok not totally true as heat up times will vary but vaping at 30 watts on a .2 coil and 30 watts on a 1.2 coil should be the same also diff mods have diff sweet spots for how much power you get ie just because it says its chucking out 50 watts it might not be because the coil isnt in the mods sweet spot to get more vapor use less cotton as in dont have it running under the coils, just down to the deck(you want air to pass under the coil ) line up the coils with the air slots ,height wise as well smack in the middle of the coil and daft as it sounds you control the temp of the vape by how hard and fast you draw on it,i likes my dripper at .2 ohms on a mech mod for chasing clouds(peeing wife right off )but i know how hard to suck on it,if i was to pass it to someone who never used a dripper they would prob burn their lips off so have a play with how hard you suck

I would have thought that 20w would be too much for a 1.2 ohm coil? Well, it is for me. Somewhere around 10w would be a better place to start at 1.2 ohm as you are closer to around 4.2 volts there (cant remember exactly, can't be bothered calculating it out).
I would say your simply trying to put too much voltage over the coils there. But then there is a lot of wire there too. Have a look on your istick, it will tell you how much voltage it will put over the coil at your selected wattage. Start on around 4 volts and adjust from there to taste. That would be the rough equivalent of a slightly discharged battery in a mech. You can then go up or down depending on how you vape.

+1 for what xs2man said. Start lower and increase til you hit the sweet spot. Even if you follow another build to the micron there will be differences in airflow and other things. Talking of airflow more will cool the coil more. So you'll probably start low, get confident and start filling your lungs, then build your way back up to or even past the power setting you're trying now.

I've nothing to add except that looks really complicated and well done for giving it a go, I hope you sort it out Thank you very much smokin100516. Honestly, it's just over 3 months since I began vaping, and achieving a single coil build seemed really remote, but I did it, and learnt eg about wire thickness/difference tank bases, the right tools, etc ... this rba base has 4 posts, which means you're basically doing 2 single coils, each with a positive and negative leg (coil 1 in holes 1/3, coil 2 in holes 2/4), plus it's easier as there are drilled holes to feed the wire through. So glad I can post here though, as the advice of the jedi coilers is always brilliant; working out wires and wraps and ohms would be a risky business otherwise, lol.

Adding the plastic drip tip has made it so easy to lift on and off the base easily as well, without 3rd degree burns, lol. Thanks for explaining; things are beginning to register more, and I'm seeing very clearly that my 12 giant wraps was really comical ... half that is clearly better, lol. So, less wraps (in this instance) = faster firing, check. Less cotton, check. Line up coils, check. Suck harder, check. Does your wife vape too? Best to join the elite club really, lol.

Thanks xs2man. iStick's showing 4.6v, at 35w, and now reading 0.6ohms. I was thinking the higher I took the watts on this now clearly 'way too many wraps' build, the better, but the batteries getting too hot is definitely a stop sign. Time to build 6 or 7 wraps, for sure. 3mm, 22awg still, so it can heat up and I can vape without sucking my cheeks inside out, lol.

I'm on 4 wraps of twisted 22awg, single coil, 0.2 ohms and 60watts at 3.7v And it's warm and cloudy

Thank you Ripshod Definitely sounds better to build confidence steadily. I'd got unnerved at my first try with this, when I didn't use enough juice (on far too much wick) and got some flames, lol. I went to Mass Vapour's help day a couple of weeks ago [it's been shut for days now, due to water problems ], and saw others' rda's having the occasional flame and just dealing with it, and that was great, as was seeing a dual coil setup and vaping that, plus one of the lads had his mod set at 90w, double what I'd ever vaped at, and that gave me confidence too. I'd just got the goblin and goliath clones that morning, and the lads were great in doing the builds, and I've been able to really examine the builds, and repeat them, using the advised 28awg twisted ribbon, which is lovely to work with. Thus it was time to come back to the rda; excited to be able to drip, and have had a box of samples waiting, as well as home mixes too, and discovering 22awg is great as well; nice solid coil, and thank goodness coil masters exist, lol. Plus I'm so grateful for advice here.

I'm on 5 wraps of twisted 22awg, single coil, 0.2 ohms and 60watts at 3.7v And it's warm and cloudy That sounds great kreed. I need to get me some twisted 22awg, as the ordinary 22awg is great to work with. Is that your own hand-twisted wire? I don't have a drill that has different speeds at the moment, but have been able to find this: www.vapeandecigstore.co.uk, but they're out of stock at the moment. And I could just put a single coil, on 1/3 or 2/4, and there's no problem with leaving the other posts empty?
