That's weird @tedster never heard of anything like that, it'll be interesting to see if anyone else has experience it. Yes it is and I've no idea why all I know is I hate a mouthful of sprayed vapour mist, tastes disgusting. I've never made my own nickel coils just used the occ ones. Maybe I've got a duff batch ? I really don't know

Now you can believe it or not, but the top post on this page had more than what is showing there. I cant remember exactly what I posted there, but there was more than what is showing VapingBad. I don't think so robby but I feel it's best to call it 6 one and 1/2 doz of the other and do as VapingBad said because it's not good to have two long standing and respected members who have a lot offer the rest of us bickering. number 1, I was not bickering, that started with vapingbad, I dont do bickering, never have. If someone has a problem with me I ask them to take it to PM as I always have done here. I dont want this crap on the threads any more than you do. number2 Does that post at the top of the page make any sense at all to you because it doesn`t to me. Why would I post it that like that. It`s just a quote, and as such doesn`t say anything derogatory. As I have said, if anyone has a problem with any of that, take it to PM. I dont want it here. Subject closed on this as far as I am concerned. My apologies to mxethey for any annoyance I have caused.

Ok guys and girls, I started this thread hoping for some basic setup guides on coil build, temp setting,watts/jules on tanks and drippers Whilst i love the technical debate it's starting to go over my head a bit Could somebody start a list for example like below that would help a lot of us switching over to tc: coil material: coil inner diameter: coil wraps: coil gage: coil spaced/closed: temp setting: power setting watts/jules: device rta/subtank/rda: As you can see we can and do use temp control/protection differently. Way I see it..control is you over power the coil and let the chip run the coil at a set temperature. Others use it as "protection" run the atty at the watts you normally use and if you run low on juice or feck your wicking up etc it protects you from a dry hit...I use the former "control" so on that basis; coil material: organic cotton coil inner diameter: dependant on the juice channels. Not point having a 4mm dia when you only have 2mm to feed it. coil wraps: 5-7 dependant on the air hole and deck screws, I don't like legs kicking back on them selfs. coil gage: large as I can go above minimum ohms. 0.09 DNA 0.05 on the SXMini...just under spec and any lower seems to play up. coil spaced/closed: spaced temp setting: 380-430f power setting watts/jules: 5-10 watts above the temp I want to run at Don't like twisted nickel, tried it 3 times now and can taste the wire, other like it, I just use a lower gauge. Tried to keep it universal and Hope it helps somewhat, go have play.

Appreciated I'm getting there slowly, hopefully the thread will keep going and the penny will drop Any suggestions on a dual coil build got a velocity on the way

mxetheyJust built this, new dripper to me... 6 wraps .2 ni200 3mm dia. Coil height and width as air intakes. Might of got away with 2.5 ni200 but it's going on a DNA and I can't be arsed using steam engine so played it safe...! 0.16 ohms.

mxetheyMy bread and butter, vape about 20ml a day through kayfuns....get nothing more outer larger builds, its bottle necked by the air and juice channels. 5 spaced wraps over airhole, .3 ni200 2.5 dia, standard wicking, typical around 0.12ohms, out of all the stuff I own still my favourite tank for flavour. 430f 20watts, uses about 15 watts average to run at that temp.

I put a build in it today 9or10 wraps 3mm 28/29 awg vaping at 12.5w came out 0.09 not sure if thats good or not. On the hcigar vt40 450f

Another thing to watch out for is the integrity of all your connections from 510 through to the coil, the very low resistance of nickel builds compared to kanthal will show any short comings which will result in unstable resistance and therefor inaccurate temps. I use the temps limiting method because I want to vape at a certain power setting for the coil I build, when in use if it doesn't maintain a steady power and TP cuts in I know something's not optimal about the build. I loved my Kayfuns, had a 3.1 and v4 but as letsavit said they are a bit restrictive, this is what I vape just about exclusively now, SquapeR, B deck, twisted 'Tiger" coil for greater surface area, 0.12ohms, cotton. I vape at lower temps than most 195C (380f) and hold a steady 25w throughout the draw. You mention dual coils, I tried the D deck on the SquapeR but prefer single coils for the way I vape. Edit: Temp setting is contentious, as you've read not all devices are the same, the temps I mention are on DNA40 devices

I've read through this thread as a total noob to temp protection/control and one thing that is jumping out at me is ni200 as a coil material is significantly lower in resistance when compared to kanthal. I've been thinking about the vt40 myself but is the temp protection/control better suited to sub ohm builds due to the low resistance of ni200? That might seem a silly question but as I stated in the first line I'm a noob to temp reg/con. My current build in my sub tank mini is .37 kanthal 8 wraps 2.5mm inner diameter, heated and squeezed, coming out at around 1.1 ohm's. I'm using this with my red astaire at 16w. Reading this thread I'm thinking the resistance of this same build except with ni200 would be a lot lower resistance ? Sub homing tends to be done at higher wattages than that which usually suit me. It just feels to hot and harsh. Is this then where the temp pro/reg is going to help me out ? My humble appologies if this has been covered dozens of times already but I usually need things in idiot proof terms. I also appologies mxethey if you feel I'm hijacking your thread for my own info. Thanks guys Im am a bit wiser now about what thickness wire you all use, for single and duel coil set ups. My TC hopefully will be on its way to me soon, so I will order a couple reels one for single and one for duel coil. The pics help as well to see what may be suitable for verious attys i have. I really like the idea of TC, it has to be a big step forward for consistent vaping. Thanks again for the input and thanks mxethey for asking the question.

Jay I`m not exactly sure about every TC device, but the maximum is usually 1 ohm. The heat generated will be down to your wattage , so if you stick to 16 watts it should be very similar but hopefully more consistent JayJ The VT40 should suit you nicely

You pretty much got it JayJ using ni200 and temp protection/control requires a different mind set. I went from a similar place as you vaping at 1.0 - 1.3ohm on Spheroids and kayfuns to 0.12 -0.14ohms It is sub ohming but without the connotations that implies. I'm not a cloud chaser, I just see this as a normal progression for someone who is after the best flavour and vape experience. it's as normal to me now as the Spheroid and kayfun builds were. I'm just trying some new wicking material and am vaping as I type a 0.13ohm coil at 35w and it's smooth, flavoursome and not at all hot, 8 months ago I wouldn't go under 1ohm or over 12w. You've probably guessed that there is a steep learning curve though.

Don't know why I even entered this thread, but thought I'd see what the latest fuss was about. Wish I hadn't now, because my brain (what there is of it) hurts! So impressed with you guys and your technical knowledge, just wish I'd paid more attention in my physics classes. I'll go back to 'the lounge' now where I feel more comfortable. Sorry for the interruption, but there may be others out there that feel as dumb as me.

Thank you robby @scooby I'm a bit flipping skint but vaping is my only vice, I don't drink and I obviously don't smoke so I might pull the trigger on the VT40. It will take me a week to decide on the colour though. I'm leaning towards the black but I worry about the finish as I've got the touch a rhinoceros and don't want something that scratches easily.
