Update No. 2 - OK, I was a little premature in my assessment of my first build. I think I have packed in a bit too much cotton, so will need to disassemble this morning (being a KFL, this is a pain, involving pouring the tank contents back into the bottle, washing and rinsing the components, and then rewicking) - I'll report back again after this has been completed. I will also remove the KFL's airflow grubscrew to assist ventilation over the coil. I'll be back! Nice one chykensa I've been using occ Nic heads in a kanger sub tank, while waiting for a spool of Nic wire............ which I now have. So I'm following this thread religously, as I'm in the same boat, never built Nic coils before.

Update No. 3 - Right folks, I've rewicked with a little less cotton, and primed and refilled as before. The stats: .14ohm registered, running at 350deg F at 15w and working nicely. The only problem is the airflow on my KFL, which I have removed the grubscrew from, not that it's made much difference TBH. Supplementary question #2,348! - what would you experts recommend as a suitable tank to build a single Ni200 coil in to get the full benefit of this style of build? I've heard good reports of the Lemo v2 from *-SARIN-*, but other suggestions would be welcome. I don't really want to buy something like the Atlantis, Triton, Zephyrus etc. unless the benefits outweigh the outlay! Will report back again after a tank of Minty The Toff to let you know how it's going

I just built a subtank mini with 9 wraps of 0.32mm (28 AWG) that came out at 0.12 chykensa. Running it at 400F on 35 watts with Black 'n' Blue and it is a new flavour. You simply must have one of those? It's the new and improved rba though, on a clone tank. I'm not an expert on this TC though (maybe never will be). I'm pretty much in your shoes.

There doesn't look to be much room in them, just wondering how tight a squeeze the build is? Might have to get me a Subtank just for the RBA base, although I'm off on holiday in a couple of weeks, and it would be nice to take it with me, so will have a trawl through the UK vendors for a good cheap one

I did this wrap on a M3 screw chykensa. That makes an even closely spaced coil at 3mm ish. I probably could have wrapped it on a drill bit. It is much easier to work with than Kanthal. As long as you have the tempered wire, the wicking is simple. Not tried annealed, but I read that it deforms easy.

Thanks tim, I have a couple of those screws in my coiling box so will try a build that way on another Kayfun sometime for comparison; having used twisted nickel this time, I'll also use single strand next time to see if I notice any difference in both building and wicking.

Thanks @yinyang, but my expenditure may be a bit curtailed for the next few weeks as we have just booked a week's holiday in Rhodes, so will have to save my pennies for beer etc.!!
I have now gradually eased the temperature and watts up, and am getting a good steady flavoursome vape at 390deg F at 28w, and increasing bit by bit. The amount of vapour, even for a KFL, is quite adequate, and an excuse to use up some of my higher nic juices now that I an predominantly sub-ohming.
I have another KFL washed and dried, just need to find time to bang a Nickel coil in, using the M3 screw single wire method for comparison. I'll report back once this is done!

I'm trying to build a dual coil atty (Cthulhu, similar to a goblin/Goliath) but not having much success. My latest was a twisted 0.2 aiming at 0.06 ohms (0.05 being the low limit on the mod). 10/9 wraps on a 2.5 former was the trial, but it reads too low to fire. Have I missed something? Calc says it should be ok.
I had the shorting stuff with anything bigger than 10/9, slightly spaced wraps. Is microcoil alright to use, or will I be wasting my time? and need thinner wire?
TIA

TIA Try giving the coil a strum (as in guitar) to ensure it is not shorting between loops, if that doesn't work push something thin between each loop like flat tweezers of a knife, if that doesn't work you can stretch it on the former rod then squash it again and that normally comes out even spaced. And give it a strum after fitting the wick as that can pull them together again.

And give it a strum after fitting the wick as that can pull them together again. That's an interesting thing VB. When I put the coils in the ohms are close to my aim, but after wicking and juicing the ohms drops. I'll try that. Thanks.
