I have given temperature control a brief trial and to be honest I can't really see the advantage other than avoiding dry hits which in my opinion (not always humble) can be avoided by paying attention to your coil/wick/eliquid viscosity/power set up and not running your tank/dripper dry. In fact I have found that the vape I get using the same tank, mod and eliquid in power mode at 25 watts is better than that in TC mode at 40 watts/450F - 500F (and my batteries last longer in power mode).
So am I doing it all wrong or what ... opinions please.

No opinion, but will be interested in the replies. I have not (yet) gone down the TC road, (apart from buying (from here) the Smok XPro M80), which apparently doesn't do it anyway, but great for just normal VV/WW vaping. It seems far to complicated for me, and then I would have to buy the special coils, or the kit to make my own, and then stuff things up until I get the hang of it.

one thing to watch for and im sure your probably checking already is that any TC mod reads the coil resistance accurately to start with. If the initial reading is off, the power calculations based on that reading will just exaggerate the error..
imho its also worth performing a cotton burn test as that will indicate the 'mod temperature' setting that will represent the max temp to set the control too, afaik some of the 1st yihi solutions required a higher temp to be set in order to 'fix' the vape?
the temperature of the coil isnt measured but is derived from a change in resistance calculation and the power applied.
And the vape from a TC mod is a cooler vape,

And the vape from a TC mod is a cooler vape, I have been setting the initial coil resistance at room temp and staying below the cotton burn temp of the istick 40w TC (600F according to the test done by Mike Vapes video review of the istick 40). I have only used the stock Kanger 0.15 ohm Ni200 heads so far so it is not as though I am ballsing up my coils ... I just prefer the vape (flavour and vapour) that I get from the stock 0.5 ohm kanthal head at 25 watts ... it just seems to be a "fuller" vape if you know what I mean. Thanks for your input ... all opinions appreciated.

I have had a dalliance (albeit brief) with TC using a nickel coil in a Kayfun Lite. The biggest problem is the lack of airflow, a problem hopefully sorted once my new bored out bases arrive from FT. I was still getting the occasional dry hit, which I can only put down to my wicking, so I'm going to take it apart sometime and have another go. I am however not convinced, and like the OP get a better vape from a 'conventional' Kanthal coil, and just use my old-fashioned eyes to check there is juice in my tank!

No you are not alone i find the flavour a little bit flat and muted with nickel coils and the vapor production lower.
I also happen to prefer a warmer vape and the only way i can seem to get the warmth i like is to bump the temp limit way above the scorching temperature of cotton which kinda defeats the purpose as i see it. Another issue is ramp up time, sorry but i don't want to sit there vaping like i'm doing one of those lung capacity tests they get you to do at health check ups, a 4 or 5 second pull is comfortable for me.
To be honest though i think a lot of it is down to my personal style of vaping i like a full open airy lung inhale and i think the flavour issue would be less of an issue on an atty with a more restricted draw.
The vapor production and ramp up time i think is just down to a lack of power, 40w just isn't enough to get a coil with that low a resistance hot enough quick enough, particularly with again a fully open airy atty you need that power to get up and stay up to temperature. That issue is now solved with newer boards with higher wattage outputs.
I still can't see any way round that problem i have where i like a warmer vape though without raising the temp limit, that's really my sticking point because the entire purpose is to prevent dry and burnt hits which it will help with but not eliminate.

I think you have nailed it for me Get Off My Cloud ... I also prefer a warm, full air direct lung vape and if the only way that I can get that from TC is to ramp up the power and temp and thus eat batteries, then I think I will stick to power vaping at 20 - 30 watts.

Similar problems here with very muted flavours on TC. Working my way through wick & coil combinations & just starting to try out titanium coils on the IPV4 S. I have no doubt that this technology is the future of vaping, but it has a way to go yet. In six months to a year we'll all be using it.....maybe

First we need definitive data on what temperatures liquids can safely be vaped at and if they can go up to say 500-550f or maybe more then some clever sod needs to find a wicking material that performs like cotton but can withstand higher temperatures without scorching.
Then i would be able to vape the way i like with TC.

From my (limited) experience & what I observe, we're always trying to find our vaping "sweet spot". That can be any combination of juice, temperature, MTL or Lung inhale, strength of suck (ooerr) and many more variables, all have an impact on the vape. TC in theory takes out some of those variables, it can accommodate variable airflow, variable wicking, different juices etc. At different times of day I vape in a different style, long & slow sometimes, really deep sometimes, short & sharp other times, all depends on mood & context.
When TC is perfected we will be able to have preset "mood" or "style" settings that will adjust the vape according to how we want to use the device at that moment. With the technology available at the moment we can't get consistent & predictable results from mods across the TC spectrum. From what I have seen of the DNA 200 software for example, the industry is really starting to get to grips with the really high tech stuff, wire composition, temp management in real time, & consistent and measurable performance. I think it's the start of some really clever stuff that will make a huge difference & allow a new vaper to cut out the huge learning curve that many of use are going thorough. The next six to twelve months are going to be fascinating and I'm very glad and excited to be part of it.

Then i would be able to vape the way i like with TC. The boiling point for pg is 370f and vg is 554f, but you will get vapour off both of these products before these temperatures.
