Hi everyone...my name is David and, firstly, I want to say how impressed I am with this forum, having been reading it the last couple of days. Such a wonderful warm, welcoming and helpful place so congratulations to everyone for making it such a good place. As the title says, I am a complete beginner with this type of NRT....having tried patches and Inhalators in the past with some success but not long-term, thought this would be a good thing to try. Motives are health, obviously, but, more importantly, wanting to buy a PS4 early next year and giving up smoking is the only way I can do it given I haven't been able to work for nearly 5 years so money is tight. These days I usually smoke 10-14 cigarettes a day so I'm not a heavy smoker but the addiction is still the same. As I said, I've been reading round the forum for a few days and, while I don't fully understand it all, figured I can order what I need and spend the time while I'm waiting for it to be delivered to find out what I need. So, from what I have read, this seems a good place to start: iStick 40W TC Kangar Subtank Mini RBA 510 (looked at others but i liked that this has a higher capacity) First question, would I be better off going for an istick 30? Only I noted that the Kangar has a max of 30w? Also regarding the Kangar, I see it comes with both RBA and OCC...which one is the better to use? I'm considering buying spare coils (or whatever they are called) while I'm at it but not sure which to get, though I may leave that till later once I know I can get on with the whole thing to save money to begin with. Incidentally, I'll likely buy both from Gearbest as they seem to have the cheapest prices Final question for now is regarding juices. Someone posted about this in another thread...am looking to maybe buy from here to start with as they are on offer (providing they have stock left of course): Clearance Pack It seems like a good selection to try while being cheap. What strength should I be looking for? I am assuming the different strengths are the same system as with patches? Or would it be better to get them from elsewhere to begin with so I can get different levels of the VG/PG? Sorry for all the questions in my first post but figured it was best to ask it all in one go. Thank you for any help and advice given in advance

Welcome David I'm on mobile so will be brief. 30w is plenty for most. The 40 offers TC, I have one on order actually - I expect it will not take over from my 3 x 30w mods. I find the mini subtank a bit too big, and use nanos and mini nautilus.

The 40W despite having a larger capacity battery does not last as long as a 30W.
I think the 30W is a better first buy.

The Kanger Subtank Mini comes with a 0.5ohm and a 1.2ohm coil in the box so i would suggest try both see which you prefer. The RBA also comes already installed with a coil you just need to wick it, some cotton is also included in the box, so give that a go as well, it's a great tank. With regards juice i would say try 6mg if you're going for a Subtank Mini or another sub ohm style tank, you would probably want something higher in strength if going for a mouth to lung style tank though. Onepoundeliquid are cheap, the name says it all really £1 per 10ml bottle. www.onepoundeliquid.com/Joosejuice are another cheap option. joosejuice.co.uk/

hi and welcome @nursemorph how about getting the kit from myepack - and if you buy some liquids with it youa re over the 50 £ and it's free delivery anyhow regarding liquids - don't go too low on nicotine at the beginning - start with about 18mg strength and try a few flavours the kit comes with a 0.5 a1.2 and a rba ohm

Hi @nursemorph and a warm and hearty AAE-C to the forum. I would start at around 12-16mg as you only smoke 10-14 a day. I can thoroughly recommend LiQuid as a great place to get E-liquids to start you off. And if there are some you don't like at least you're not out of pocket by much. The Subtank mini is excellent as you have a choice right at the start of 0.5 Subohm, 1.2ohm and an RBA for the future. The choices off mods already given are excellent too but also consider the iStick 50 and the iStick 60. Heres to good vaping in the future

Welcome aboard. Subtank RBA offers better options OA. If your on a budget £1 liquids is a good start point.

HI n welcome my 2p's worth there are a couple of nautilus attys in the classies at the moment check them out. while i cant fault the subtank mini it is a more wide open vape suitable for the sub ohming vape that suits the direct into ling vape which isnt like smoking.. the tighter draw attys like the nautilus are more akin to the sort of resistance a ciggy has and may be the better atty to use while transitioning. sub ohm refers to a resistance less than 1 ohm for the heating coil less resistance requires more power to heat up, but once hot will generate more clouds of vapour and is the way i now prefer to vape. again welcom and congrats on deciding to give up the ciggys.. and if you slip off the wagon dont give up on giving up

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome and the excellent advice So it looks like the istick 30 or 40 would be fine...may just go with the 30 to start off and can always go better once I know I can get on with things. Given this is my first time trying, it seems like going with what I know (ie smoking cigarettes and the way they work) may be the best option, so looks like the Nautilus will be the better choice..again, I can always upgrade in future if needs be but better to keep things simple to start with. (had a look at the link Clivia posted which is a good idea having everything as a kit but, even with free p+p, it is still somewhat more expensive than getting separate bits from other places...and cost is important to begin with as I don't have much money) So that's the hardware sorted, now just need to decide on the juices to use. Still might try that clearance pack that I mentioned in the first post as it gives plenty of choice to experiment as it contains several flavours but other juices may be better for the VG etc ratio adjustment ability. Decisions, decisions! Trouble is, as I pointed out to my Mum earlier, I have a history of making bad decisions in life....like starting smoking to begin with despite being a nursing student at the time and knowing better Thanks again for all the advice offered.....am still open to advice and suggestions as I will be spending another day or two looking around before finally deciding.

Hi Nursemorth. I'm really pleased to see that you have been steered away from the Subtank Mini, at least for now. I recently gave up smoking and purchased this tank and found it not suitable to assist in the transition from smoking to vaping. This forum helped me greatly in finding the correct tank for me (that closely mimics the draw of a cigarette) and I will always be grateful as I've been a non smoker since getting it. I was recommended the Kayfun Lite Plus v2 (because I wanted to rebuild the coils and wick myself), but if these guys say the Nautilus is right for you then stick with that for sure.
Juice is a problem. If the juice is not nice you are not going to want to vape it and you will go back to smoking. I have tried the "pound" juices and I'm sorry to say but for me they are unpleasant to the point where I threw them straight into the bin despite the wasted money. The "pound" tobacco juice for example was like licking an ash tray (now there's a review for the review section lol). The trouble is that the nicer juices are expensive in comparison at up to £4.99 for 10ml + postage, and as a 20 smoke a day man, I'm getting through 5-6ml a day. I decided though that I would pay what it takes to stop me smoking and it is still way cheaper than smoking. There are some great juice vendors on this forum, but "for me" the juice that helped me to give up smoking was the Manabush range. Whilst the range has a tobacco base, it is merged with a smokey sweet maple, vanilla and nut (it's almost like a sweet pipe tobacco). The truth is, I instantly preferred it to smoking and in no way considered it a substitute at all. They have several flavours that add a twist to their tobacco base. Taste is of course a personal thing so I am just giving you another option to investigate.
For me @ 1.5+ohm (as a 20 a day man) I found 18mg "barely" enough to take the edge off (especially in the morning), so I probably should have started a little higher, but I managed so 18mg should be just about right for you. After two weeks I have dropped to 12mg but again I think I dropped a little too soon, so keep that in mind. It follows that if you keep the nicotine level up where it should be, you will vape less and save on juice too.
Good luck mate - the support here is unbelievable and I wish you all the very best with it.
Edited to add: If you do look at Manabush, Powwow Sauce might be a good choice of test bottle, or alternatively Nokomis, which appears to be the base juice.
