Winds have now abated in W Cornwall, but still gusting to 35mph. Only intermittent showers, but the roads are littered with tree debris both large and small - please take care folks, and as RangersBillyBoy said above, consider every other driver on the road an absolute idiot (you probably won't be far wrong, actually!). Defensive driving is the name of my game anyway, but has been particularly useful to me today; some tw@t deided it would be a good idea to swerve at speed onto my side of the road to avoid a gorse bush blown out of a hedge, when with enough forward vision he could have merely taken his foot off the gas and driven round it once I had passed. Fortunately for both of us, we were the only two vehicles on that stretch of road, but I certainly know that my horn works now!!

The weather has been bleddy awful here as well since 1 am this morning. Got woken up by the sound of our roof tiles rattling (very disconcerting) apparently they're screwed on. The sound of rain and hail crashing (it was that loud) against the window and thunder & lightning. It's still very blowy and was still rattling the roof tiles up to about a hour ago. Give it a few more weeks DiscoDes and you'll remember why you moved to the coast To all those effected, please take care.

Wow Chrissie I would recognise that view anywhere, spent many years camping at Croyde Bay on the right of your photo just up on the rise and remember how bad the storms were. I will regale the story of the worst storm we spent in a tent there, the tent was tied to the cars bumpers front and back, my brother slept in the back of the car, my dad spent the night stood up clinging onto the main frame of the tent whilst me and mum huddled in sleeping bags at his feet. Everything we had was piled on the floor in the middle of the tent to keep the groundsheet down. As dawn broke the total devastation became apparent, caravans on their sides, tents ripped apart and thrown across the campsite, truly truly awful but then the sun came out and everyone mucked in to clear up. Surfing in that bay is the best ever!

Horrendous day of weather here . . . . the winds gusting across the front of our store, took the roof off of one of the Shopping Trolley bays in the car park!
Fortunately no damage done to life, limb or property as a reconnaissance mission revealed it came to rest in the graveyard across the road . . . . .

Oh wow *-SARIN-* another one of my favourite places of childhood, Lands End oh those were the days! I have one of the obligatory photos of me and my brother stood under the signpost eating ice cream - LOL! Me in an orange pak-a-mac and my brother in blue! You lot are so lucky living round and about Cornwall & Devon, I would move there in a heartbeat if I could
