I'm on hifi's side. I agree with everything he has said in this thread. If you personally have ANY concerns about vaping, you should consider ceasing vaping altogether & either go back to smoking or use NRT instead. I believe it is as simple as that. Vaping IS an alternative to smoking. It IS NOT a way of quitting smoking. Obviously, it's personal choice if you end up not smoking or vaping, but that's what it is. I along with many others chose vaping as a viable healthier alternative to smoking & have no intention of using vaping as a way to quit smoking. I can imagine of vaping was banned, for instance, people would go back to smoking. How have I, and so many others quit then? I'd never go back to smoking. I'm sorry but this is all a bit elitest IMO, "Don't like it, go back" Why? because we want to make something safer and accessible to more people?

Yeah I rekon most of us would karma.
I hated having to quit smoking. In fact I really enjoyed every ciggie I smoked.
Was kinda pushed into quitting by my OH as he never liked me smoking. I was totally fed up & miserable.
Then I found this website & realised I could still "smoke" without my OH moaning at me.
However, if e-cigs were banned, I would be straight back on the ciggies.

TBH I think it's best we just leave it, or close the thread, or whatever, because this has clearly turned into a debate between people with very differing opinions, myself included, and that's fair enough, opinions differ, but in fairness to chrissie, perps, gordy and the rest of the team here, this isn't that type of forum.

Be elitist or not...if someone is that concerned about risks, then it would be the obvious thing to stop vaping.
I've noticed that many of the people who disagree with hifi, haven't been vaping for that long. It would be the worst thing to happen to the vaping community if pharmaceutical companies & the goverment got their dirty mitts into vaping.
I found out about e-cigs by actively searching for an alternative to smoking. Also, there are many adverts now which advertise disposable e-cigs. So the message is out there, just peoples' choice whether they choose vaping or not.
Many people I know don't want to give up smoking regardless of the alternatives. If people want to smoke rather than vape, then it's up to them.

Now you see that not everyone agrees with you, your asking for the thread to be closed. If a topic needs debating then let it be debated. You can choose not have an imput.

Nooooooo don't close it. It's part of what makes vaping so intresting, everyone comes to it for different reasons and takes different things out of it. For some its cost, others it's health and others it's being able to use it where smoking isnt allowed and others its something else and something else after that. Thats why passions run so high and makes the huge mix of people from all walks of life, with opinions as varied as the choice of juice to the battery holder. I love hearing why other people do what they do and belive what they belive. I may not always agree but again that's part of the colourful tapestry of life. Imagine the arguements that could break out on a marmite forum lol

Or not then Hissie, lol... Mods, if you'd prefer us to continue this in PM or not at all, please say, until then I guess we'll carry on.
Doesn't matter how long we've been vaping, that again, sounds elitest to me. How about this, maybe those that have been vaping longer, are set in their ways, too scared of change, and too blinkered by any possible negative sides of change, to see the good sides. Maybe they're also afraid, that what has become a way of life for them will change, even if that change is just slight.
You say it would be the worst thing to happen, can you give me any reasons why that is so, reasons that haven't already been addresses here in this thread already?
There are people I know, that know about vaping, and won't try it, because it's unlicensed, and not proven safe, that is a fact. I think it would be good to open up vaping to more people.

Read what Dave (HiFi) has written again, carefully. He knows where he is coming from The way forward is for Ecigs to be classified as recreational, not medicinal. Be very careful what you wish for, it could bite us very badly.

Well tis a matter of opinion whether I'm being elitist or not.
I believe hifi has already listed the problems & issues which would have a dramatic effect on the vaping community. So, I am not going to re-iterate all the points.
As for people who choose not to vape because they are scared it's unlicensed or unsafe, well then they can continue with their unsafe smoking habits. Continuing smoking when you KNOW the risks that it brings is fine by me. Also, unless you have carried out statistical analysis of those who choose not to vape due to the reasons you mentioned, then it is NOT fact.

I dont see why this thread should be closed, we are after all entitled to our own views. If you would of asked me last year when i started vaping i would of agreed with alot of what some of you have said, but nearly one year down the line i have to agree with Hifi. I can just imagine how ecigs would go if the government had there way Alvo we are all adults surely we can have a debate without falling out I agree Jem it is very interesting to see peoples points of view, who's right only time will tell.

Wow, how condescending is that. Alvo I respect your opinion, but think you need to research a little more, have a look at ECCAUK, they would welcome help from someone as keen as yourself.

Don't worry Bel, it's just that I like this forum, and didn't want to upset anyone with my views, or by debating in public Seems the general consensus is, that it is ok, so that's good enough for me. Hissie, the point you make about people continuing to smoke despite knowing the risks is a good, one, I should have said that to them. Although I am afraid by definition of the word... "1. Knowledge or information based on real occurrences" ...It is a fact. Roger... I think I'd like to get involved with promoting Ecigs, the only problem is, the idea of Ecigs, as a cessation device, seems to be frowned upon by the vaping community, and that's what I'd like to promote them as, because, from my own experience, they work so well.

Be very careful what you wish for, it could bite us very badly. I agree i would like e-cigs to be classified for recreational use and for it to be proven safe. I also subscribe to the belief that a lot of people have quit smoking cigarettes and are now enjoying using e-cigs as an alternative... i think how we say it is just splitting hairs but fully understand this could sway how e-cigs are to be classified and regulated. we clearly dont want e-cigs to be classified as a medical product for quitting cigarettes
