According to the Parliament website, Ms Alexander's political interests are housing, urban regeneration, human rights and international development. Doesn't seem an obvious choice for Shadow Health Secretary.

I'm really struggling not to email her to ask if she's comfortable with blood on her hands, but I doubt it would even get to her.

Stop me if I'm talking bollox, but over the past few weeks we have demonstrated that as a group we are organised and have quite a voice. If using it in a positive manner wasn't successful, how about using it in a not so positive manner?

Assuming it's game over if we haven't had any concessions before the referendum, I'd feel an awful lot better if we then turned our attentions to Alexander.

Surely someone who has put the EC and/or money before an issue concerning the health of millions of people isn't suitable to be Corbyn's Shadow Secretary of State for, er, health?

I know how you feel BrenD but I think we must avoid falling into the behaviour of the ANTZ. We need to keep presenting the facts in a civilised manner and with courtesy, as we don't want to give the ANTZ more ammo to throw at us. We collectively can make our feelings known in the Referendum. Not long to go now.

Regardless of the referendum result we will still be forced to stay in as the big corporations do not want us out and if you read up about it the result is not legally binding it is just being run to give the impression of democracy

Just had a reply to my email to Heidi Alexander. Tosh.

Dear Mr Bond

Thank you for contacting me regarding Lord Callanan's motion in the House of Lords to annul the regulations which transpose the Tobacco Products Directive (TPD) into UK law.

Firstly, I share your views about the benefits of vaping over smoking and I believe that recent research shows that some of the initial concerns about e-cigarettes were overstated. Vaping can be a safe and effective way to give up smoking and I believe the Government should be doing more to promote e-cigarettes as a potentially useful aid to help people quit smoking.

I note that Lord Callanan has now withdrawn his “fatal motion” to annul the TPD regulations. A fatal motion would have stopped the regulations entirely, removing not just the changes to e-cigarettes but all the positive changes brought in by these regulations to help smokers quit and make smoking tobacco less attractive to younger people. Lord Callanan has instead tabled a “regret motion”, which highlights his concern that the regulations were drafted before evidence was accumulated that vaping can help people to stop smoking.

The Labour Party has tabled its own regret motion, a copy of which can be viewed below, and this sets out some of our concerns with the regulations. These concerns include the failure of the Government to establish a monitoring mechanism to measure whether the directive will have a negative impact on the number of smokers using electronic cigarettes, and the failure of the Government to launch a public awareness campaign re-assuring smokers that vaping is much less harmful than smoking.

I note concerns have been raised about the ban on nicotine content above 20mg/ml that is contained in the regulations. Whilst it is true that stronger products will in future need to be licensed by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, my understanding is that for many people this will make little difference as the most popular liquids tend to be those products with concentrations of nicotine lower than 20mg/ml.

I am also aware of concerns that the regulations place limits on ‘container’ size and ‘tank capacity’. Whilst I understand these concerns, it is important to note that the prohibition of container size to 10ml only comes into force on 20 May 2017, which allows ample time for manufacturers to make the better quality e-liquids available within the legal size limit.

I believe that the Government should carefully monitor how these regulations impact on users of e-cigarettes, and I will continue to press Ministers on what more they can do to help people stop smoking tobacco.

We should all be pointing our fingers at ASH, they have really lobbied hard to stop the Early Day Motion going through.

I am sure he will issue a statement soon and why he had to change his stance to the motion will become clearer.

I'm gonna respectfully disagree with you here DiscoDes and say he has been got at in some way. What other reason, would a man that has fought so hard for vaping (allegedly) suddenly bottle it ? 

I wouldn expect, if he does make a statement, that it will be far from the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help me almighty TPD. Why would he tell the truth, he's a politician FFS, they're hardly renowned for their honesty.

For me he can go on the pile of shit faced, spoon fed, snotty nosed, gutless lying B*****ds that unfortunately have the power to decide our destiny.

Big thanks to Postmodern Smoking for the effort to get everyone on board with this campaign, unfortunately it looks like it has been a fruitless exercise.

Wow, what a complete sell out. I can't help but feel this has something to do with the lisbon treaty which was ratified by the queen in 2008 and finalised in december of last year (lisbon treaty if anyone is curious www.express.co.uk/news/uk/52947/Sold-out-to-Europe-Brown-makes-Queen-sign-away-our-sovereignty).

Firstly a fine effort by everyone who made the effort. Well done.

Secondly not really surprised by the outcome its obvious really. Oil and Tobacco rule the world. They don't want a cure for smoking that eventually kills you. They want the population culled and they want you to pay for it.

One thing that has come from this tho for me learning how slanted politics is.

Can't help but wonder if we have been victims of our own campaign on this one. After the magnificent effort to contact all members of the HOL it forewarned them and hence allowed them to hatch a plot in return. IMO, Callanan hasn't changed his motion of his own accord. Think there will now be twitching arses concerning Vapefest. Call me a pessimist or whatever you like, but with all the dross that has happened so far, I think it's justified.
