I'm not going to comment on Lord Callanan personally, as I don't know enough about him. To me it just smacks of... 'twas ever thus'... i.e. 'things never change'Regardless of the EU (and I'm OUT just so that you know) this was in the UK's decision making power, and it still gets overpowered by (insert your own defamatory word). The same day we hear of Sir MS having a £70M pay package passed. I know he's not a politician and his company's shareholders are free to do what they like, but what a signal to the rest of us that there really is a 'them & us' in this country. Those with the power, influence and money dictate all our lives, and certainly not for our benefit. Caught a bit of the ITV debate last night with Cameron & Farage being questioned by the audience, and I felt a real change in how we now view our 'leaders'... no more polite, scripted questions and let them come back with their spin doctors' answers. They ripped into them with supplementary questions if they felt they were 'waffling'. Quite refreshing, so perhaps there's hope they'll take notice... or is that a pig flying over.

Can't help but wonder if we have been victims of our own campaign on this one. After the magnificent effort to contact all members of the HOL it forewarned them and hence allowed them to hatch a plot in return. IMO, Callanan hasn't changed his motion of his own accord. Think there will now be twitching arses concerning Vapefest. Call me a pessimist or whatever you like, but with all the dross that has happened so far, I think it's justified. I think the opposite with well over 2 million vapers the peers only got 1,700 letters and 27% only got a single letter, it is too easy to ignore one or two letters and it is another failure of vapers to act rather than leave it to others and then moan about the result. What didn't people understand about the phrase "last chance"?

VapingBad ... I think most of us, of a mature age, have been so ground down by events over our lives that we feel we are powerless to affect any change. However, I do sense a swell of younger people who want to shape events and not be governed by them, and I applaud them. Most of us vapers, I would say are in the middle to older age group and just wanted to give up smoking, but have been conditioned in our lives to 'don't bother questioning the establishment' it will get you nowhere. I confess I've not done 'my bit', but with the energy of youth, hopefully it will change for the better.

I know its been said a million times already, but how can you include something into the tobacco products directive that doesn't contain tobacco. I'm just a simple man, but it seems to me that as usual big money is behind this, what a corrupted world we live in.

What didn't people understand about the phrase "last chance"? On the face of what has happened, would it have mattered if 2 million vapers had sent 10 million letters ? IMO, no. If Callanan was going to have a poof out on his original motion, no amount of letters from us vapers were going to make any difference. We were given false hope and should have known that somewhere along the line, politicians would do what politicians do best, spout shit and piss all over the tax paying public for their own gain.

Must admit I can't help but feel that the decision to not pursue the Fatal Motion is more about Politics than the health of the nation . . . . which makes me even more cynical of the political breed as a whole.

I think you'll find that he knew the motion was doomed as Labour and the Liberals had told him they would be voting against it.

Being a bit thick here but will the 10ml law apply to flavour concentrates? Those of us that mix their own liquid will be really f.... then. And what about pg and vg?

So does that mean that the 7.2% nicotine that we use for mixing will be ok?

So does that mean that the 7.2% nicotine that we use for mixing will be ok? No. It won't be available anymore after May 2017 (and probably will become increasingly hard to get Nov.2016-May2017). Only <2.0% (<20mg/ml) maximum strength and in 10ml maximum bottle size is allowed.

And you will need 400 10 ml bottles of 1.8% to get the same amount of nic in a litre of 7.2%

No one "caved" or was bought out, the motion was dropped because Labour & Liberals stating they would be voting against it, it's ASH and the likes of Heidi Alexander (@heidi_mp) you should be angry at.
