I was looking at the Calendar today and got onto some of the Birthday Members pages.
Now I realise that some Forums will carry on the names of all the members that have joined just to swell the suppose membership count, but surely we should not be counting names of members who haven't posted for 2, 3 or in some cases 4 years. Indeed some of the "members (?)" who have registered years ago, have never posted at all.
A truer representation of our actual membership could be achieved by having a cut off date in that someone joining and not posting for a year or perhaps 18 months would lose their membership and have to re-apply if they wished to renew.
It does seem crazy to me to be carrying such a large membership number when probably only 1 in 10 are actually contributing to our Forum.

I don't see there's any pressing reason to cancel memberships - it surely doesn't take up large amounts of computer storage or cause problems. (Not that I would know) I drop in on forums I've not visited for a year or two and like to see nothing has changed. If you could 'get back' your status and posts then that'd be OK I guess. Not sure, overall.

I don't think it's reasonable to close inactive accounts. Some chose to lurk long term and that's their perogative, others may pop in from time to time. If a user decided to pop in after a long break only to find their account canned they may not bother signing up again. If it's not causing an issue leave well alone I say

Does that actually matter though in the scheme of things Lobey? In my world it matters not a jot. I'm a member of several vaping related Facebook groups - some I've never ever posted on, others on very rare occasions - but I read them all over the course of a week to catch up on news and glean snippets of information that may or may not be useful to others on here. I would imagine that the same applies to a percentage of our membership. That's just one of the reasons I'd be very firmly opposed to any cull of our numbers . . . . .

Och maybe I'm just old school but if I was running a club that had 10 active members, if somebody asked how many members we had I would say 10. Not the 100 or o that had enquired about membership but not actually shown any interest in activating their membership.
Each to their own, I suppose.

lobeydosser some folks just prefer to pop in & read rather than post & I would never want to take that away from them Plus many members choose the "Invisible" option, so only forum staff can see when they last visited the forum. Without banning/deleting non posting members (which I really don't want to do for all the above reasons), I can't change the membership count.

OK I admit it I am now a lurker!. Thing is I am not up on all the latest mods using sub ohming as I am in the stick to my aerotanks and ...wait for it....yes.. still love my VTR even though it is a brick. Just feel I have not got much to contribute but do enjoy trying to keep up with latest trends and of course enjoy the banter. I must make more effort to contribute even if it is just waffle. edit - to clarify that is me postig waffle not others. Nearly dug myself a hole there!
