It sounds like your health services are bang on with your care 😀 Make use of them even if you don't think you need it! I Wish mine were the same, I got discharged, and left to it! Found out at a physio appointment my GP arranged that I should have went to rehab services when I got out. She's referred me now. Nearly 6months later. Think any benefits I may have had are unlikely to happen now :-(

Och you never know lesley1I was surprised at just how competent the local Speech Therapy Nurse was after the experience I had from the mob I had met in the hospital. Chalk and cheese springs to mind. Then again most people come across this in different parts of the NHS. My only concern these days is trying to find polite ways of getting out of invitations to attend doos which I am invited to by well intentioned folks that seem to be under the impression that I need to get out more and to be amongst of loads of friends. When, in fact, loads of anything, especially of the human variety is the last thing I need right now. Singly human friends are as much as I can handle. And that on a one to one basis. Since coming out of hospital I have had to think up 3 good reasons for not attending various functions. One is taking place right now!!! Although I had heard of people having a Stroke, I never gave it a thought as to what it was or how could affect people. Indeed I knew nothing about it what-so-ever. So I guess as I knew so little about it, I am not at all surprised that very others know so little also. Thankfully between the Speech Therapy and the Stroke Nursing Team, that should keep me right as how I handle any situation I may come across, I am more confident as to my eventual recovery.

It does seem to be a bit of pot luck the care you receive afterwards. I just keep annoying them till they help lol! I'm glad you are feeling confident and you will recover. Who knows lobeydosser you might be a completely new man !!!! I tend to not socialise just now, my family are close and if I need company they are used to my stroke foibles so I don't need to apologise or explain. If you're not feeling up to group events, don't go. I know it's hard but you need to be putting yourself first! Send a group message, let them know you're not ready but are always happy to see them at home. They'll understand :-)

Hi lesley1 For a "completely new man" I'd need a plastic surgeon and a splint kit. But I know what you mean regarding group events. They are out of the question for me for the foreseeable future. I am aware of my present limitations and can see me having a few more in the near future. Between SWMBO, the dog and my garden, I have more than enough to keep me content just now. Oh, and a few bottles of e-juice!

LOBEY RIDES AGAIN!!!!! Stay off the roads, and preferably the pavements as well, as, as of midnight tonight, Lobey gets his licence back!!!!!! Today the Doc put me through physical and eye-sight test and passed me as fit to drive again after the stroke. I wonder if the car will start. It had been 6 weeks of it siting idle. Speech wise, I am getting more confident and not so upset when I cannot find words, thought I still get tired easily, especially at night.

I still get tired easily, especially at night. Good to see you improving. And good to see you are tired at night. I'm the same, although my tiredness is usually due to too much wine.

Well Bobsbeer I'm glad somebody else's drinking my share!!!! I haven't touched any of that stuff for over 30+ years. Nor any of that ilk either. I reckon I have problems without adding the Dizzy Juice along with it as well.

Well I did it!!!!!!!
Right round the peninsula and not a single person killed. Didn't even side-swipe a pensioner!!!!
Even managed to stop off in two villages for shopping and still made in home in time for lunch.
Despite with trepidation before I started, within a hundred yards I felt that I had been driving like it was yesterday.
On the down-side, my speech is away walkabout today which made conservations with those I met in the shops, interesting, to say the least!!
Still, I'm driving again and I'm Free, Free, Free!!!!!!!!!!

I got my "homework" through from the Stroke Clinic today. 97 pages of stuff I need to learn on the do's and don't of being a model patient.
Oh well, time to fill up another tank and get the reading lamp on.
Nite nite.

Still ploughing my way through my "homework". It is now at the dull bit where it is talking about all the strokes that I do not have. Still I have to read it so that I know what others are talking about. I have found out that there is a Stroke Club in the local town, so I will be joining that. If nothing else it will gave me the opportunity to speak with others that I do not converse with. Of late I have found that the fatigue, like the speech, comes and goes with little rhyme nor reason. Some days, no problems, other days completey knackered and talking gobbly-gook. Although I have a ways to go, I am gradually getting used to the fact that this stroke has changed many of the plans that we had for our immediate and long term future. On the downside, SWMBO, has suddenly found out that my mutterings has no adverse effect on my washing of the dishes.

Last week I was "signed off" from the Speech Therapy and yesterday I was "signed off" from the Clinic Nurse from the Main Hospital. So from now on I am on Shank's Pony as far as the Stroke goes.
I have found out that whenever I go into town and need to go to a shop where I have to buy a number of goods and where I think I will have difficulty making my self understood, it is better to have a specially prepared list, explaining that I have had a Stroke and then listing the items I am looking for. So far I have found that shop assistants have been very helpful and understanding.
It is early days yet, but I am getting used to being forgetful with regards to Birthdays, Anniversaries, dates of events, Doctor's appointments or what we decided we are having for Tea tonight. Still getting used to forgetting what I was supposed to do the following morning and charging off to busy myself on one some completely useless task that will not help me one iota.
Although the Stroke has changed my life drastically, it has also shown me that many things that I thought was important in my way of thinking, are of no consequence to the way other people view their worlds. The effects of this Stroke has been an education for me and whilst I would not wish such a thing to happen to anyone else, it has certainly broadened my mind to what and who are important for me.
