Just thought I'd bump this thread to mention that the Deus Ex series is currently 75% off on Steam.

Sorry come late to this thread. Skyrim is amazing, better than Oblivion and that was very difficult. The only problem with both of them I find, is that when you play them, time seems to melt away. I've sat a whole day on both and not really noticed, so for that reason I don't play very often, I tend to get in Skyrim and play alot for a few days, then leave it for a month. Other than that I play the wii a bit with the family, we just tried 100 pin bowling for the first time a couple of days ago, to hilarious laughter from all. I've literally thousands of video games <wince> so picking one to play, then lugging out the system (alot of those :-[) is alot of work. Atm I've only the PS1 (mostly Raiden project), wii and xbox360 set up in the lounge. Which is enough for the Mrs, LOL. Oh and I've got a full size arcade machine in the dining room with 1942 on it atm.

1942, eh? I haven't played that in many years! If I had to pick a classic arcade machine (not that I've got room for one, but if I had to) I'd go for Galaxians. Or one of the Tron arcade games. I take it you're also a fan of Pong, womble?

I like vertical scrolling shoot em ups. 1942 was a classic games for me as we always used to play it as apprentices. And yes, I like Pong, just can't get anyone who wants to play it with me now a days

Late to the thread but I am an on and off gamer and have been since about 1988 on various systems.
In the last few months I have played (all on PC), Skyrim, Silent Hunter 3 & 5, Evil Genius, Sniper Elite (and just got hold of V2.0), Crusader Kings 2, Star Trek Online, Fallout 3 & New Vegas, and WOW (although I stopped paying for it and moved to a private server). The games I play most often are Fallout New Vegas and Silent Hunter 5.
I say on and off gamer because I go through periods where I play far too many hours but then get bored and spend weeks not gaming at all. I tried a few facebook games but find them completely tedious.

is anyone gonna try guild wars 2? i fancy the 'no subscription' wow type game, but i just got a new low power pc so i'd have to spend big on hardware. anyone know if a low power cpu with a good graphics card would work? or do i need both highish spec?

I'm not sure, but the specs seem fairly modest: "Our goal with Guild Wars 2 is to have it run on a wide range of Windows gaming PCs. Windows® XP Service Pack 2 or better • Intel® Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz, Core i3, AMD Athlon 64 X2, or better • 2 GB RAM • NVIDIA® GeForce® 7800, ATI X1800, Intel HD 3000, or better (256MB of video RAM and shader model 3.0 or better) • 25 GB available HDD space • Broadband Internet connection • Keyboard and mouse" (quoted from www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/game-faq/

I was heavily into Half Life 1 and 2 deathmatch , I was in a clan and at one time was in the to 50 in the UK. I once played for 18 hours non stop, that would kill me now. Then I just stopped, I have not played HL for over 12 months, I guess that's what a new woman does for you. I have just found a great game on my phone though called Song Pop where you pit your music knowledge against real people against the clock, you can even play your friends on Facebook.

thanks, kuro. interesting. but those specs are a bit higher than my low power pc. i could buy an old high power pc but might get bored of GW2 after 2 hours. i'll wait for a free trial and use my ma's comp for a bit.

You can play all modern games on quite old processors with 2GB of RAM (mine is socket 939), though it really helps to have dual core. It's the graphics card that makes all the difference. Your problem is likely to be with the PSU rating. If the PSU can't manage 550W or more it's unlikely to run a gaming graphics card.

I played World of Warcraft from the very start as did a variety of my family. We even met up twice with guild members from europe and the USA.
Just over a year ago I stopped playing but returned to see what it was like a couple of weeks ago.
If I can find the time I may play again but not at full raid level as I used to.
