The terms vaper and e-smoker are ways to describe users of PVs or ecigs. Personally I think they both sound daft and as such I have never been able to choose which one I'd class myself as, so I tend to stick with 'I'm a smoker'. However as far as CAM-VIP is concerned, the term vaping is in the title to disassociate it from smoking, as smoking in pubs is illegal - plus the VIP bit we've always liked. But the terms 'vaping' and 'vaper' tend to put off our 'target audience', the smoker. So we now use the terms e-smoking and e-smoker to try and engage the smoker with ecigs in a pub. How would you describe yourself and why? Russell

I would describe myself as a vaper not a smoker as no smoke enters my lungs anymore.

I say that I'm a vaper firstly . . . and then go on to clarify what that is . . . . an electronic cigarette user. Using the word ' vaper ' has never put anyone off that I've spoken directly to, if anything it's aroused people's curiosity and they're keen to have an explanation of the term.

So I might have used to be a vaper, but not any more. Now, I simply use an e-cig. It's also why I don't like the term "personal vaporiser", as, again, it's most closely associated with marijuana use.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there Queenie! All new words and phrases must sound daft at first! When I first started using an ecig, I wanted to stop smoking and I thought that vaper and vaping was the better of the two in the thread title as it was nowt to do with smoke. At that time, I had no concept that you'd start on an ecig and continue forever. The kits were sold with decreasing nic-strength cartridges and I thought after 6-8 weeks, I'd be free of inhaling nicotine - I was brainwashed by the previous attempts to quit via NRT that it was "all or nowt!" I then discovered (through the forums) that I didn't have to quit and I could enjoy this activity for ever. That was nearly 3 years ago, but I still never likes the term vaper as it seemed a bit druggyfied. I also didn't like anything that didn't look like a cigarette or a pipe. In fact, the Jantystick was raved about in those days and I thought it looked like a drug taking device, so I shyed away. Things have moved on in 3 years and people's (smokers) awareness has increased, but only slightly. Many smokers who I come across still have a problem with non-look-a-likes, especially if they haven't got the desire to give up smoking and do the research online. I went to see Andrew last night at his local and one of the things he said is that the smokers who come to his market stall tend to be drawn in by the look-a-likes. BUT after talking them through the pros and cons of those compared to SDKs and eGo style devices, the eGo style devices tend to sell. He also said that on a given day, the people who purchase from him tend to go for whatever he is using It's all interesting stuff

I would prefer what I do not to be associated with Smoking.
I am therefore a Vaper and I Vape.

I would say that I am a vaper as I use a non-lookalike and I am inhaling a vapour, not smoke when I use it, so I cant in all honesty say that I am a smoker. Lol queenie can you imagine saying to people "I'm a puffer"........ strange looks would ensue . Personal vaping device is a tad long winded and sometimes I've noticed that people ignore the "E" part of E-Cigarette and concentrate on the cigarette bit so would say "well you havent stopped smoking have you?" All in all........... vaper sounds just right to me

I'm definitely not a smoker any more. I'm a nicotine addict who uses a PV to get his fix (because I quickly found out that e-cigs were rubbish). I vape, but I'm not a 'vaper' (sounds a little insubstantial). I like 'vapist', although it's open to catastrophic mis-hearing.

Never had a problem with "vaper" but being a geordie I much prefer iTab to e-cig. Heh, same here (scottish though, so neighbours) Seriously though, when I smoked I was a smoker, now I vape so I'm a vaper. TBH, I think the term 'e-smoker' is neither accurate or particularly helpful. Surely the differences between smoking and vaping should be emphasized, not mixed up and confused. Cheers, John
