The G7 is good I got my wife one and she now uses her phone far more and enjoys the ease of use with it, she is a technophobe so this is a turn around.

Is your bank paying for it? I was thinking along those lines but it turns out that all the banks have to do it.

Remember years ago when the government wanted us all to have identity cards (like we were living in nazi germany) and everbody complained it was against your human rights amongst other things. Seems some 25odd years later technology has opened the door for the E-identity card. Pretty soon well all have to have a smart phone so the 'MAN' can get in contact with us when ever they desire. Just a thought lol.

Seems odd to me that a bank would require the ownership of a mobile phone, but whatever ... Is there anything in their ownership rules that says it must be turned on? * As one who has managed to avoid falling down the mobile rabbit hole ... and has a prepaid "something simple" in case of emergency - which has never been used as a phone. Makes a pretty good travelling alarm clock though
** No, sorry, I cannot give any useful advice about mobiles.

My lady has the G6, battery life is superb, charges really fast, takes reasonable pics.
Her last one was superb on battery too and I'd be inclined to think the G7 would be as decent if not better.
I love my phone, use it for loads, ignore it when I want or just hit do not disturb lol
I don't feel caught up in some kind of modern must have tech thing but I do find it very handy.
Satnav is ace, Google maps did some update recently which made it a lot better.
I use it for taking pics, forums, email, text, calls or whatever I like.
I've only had internet for maybe 8 years or so so not exactly ahead of the game lol

I think this is to do with new EU rules regarding online shopping. If you use a card online you now have to input a a one time code every transaction, some banks send you the code via an app, others are sending the code by text. I think this only applies to card transactions within the EU. My bank went the app route but they also offered a fob which generates a code every time you push the button on it. I just had them send me a fob.
This is supposed to be some fancy new security feature but to me it seems pretty pointless. The fob they send isn't receiving signals or anything so these codes are obviously generated using a mathematical algorithm and scammers will crack the algorithm soon enough so they can generate the codes themselves.

Interesting theory phtumshk, which I don't completely discount in all honesty! Even for something as seemingly innocuous as voting in an online competition for an animal charity I support - voters have to provide a mobile number for a verification code to be sent to enable them to vote.

This I see the logic of Get Off My Cloud . . . . my elderly mother went into a Care Home in February this year, the first week some swine scammed her bank card and used over £4,000 from her account buying goods at various online sites!
Long story short, I got the money restored to her account as I've LPOA over her financial affairs - her bank were very helpful, but this type of fraud must cost the various financial institutions millions.
( As an aside the thief was identified as a Care Home worker who lost their last job in November 18, for theft! So that doesn't say much for the Enhanced CRB check system either!! )
Other than that, sorry I've no useful information to give on a purchase monty, as I just toddle along to my local 3 store and say - sort me out with something that won't take an IT genius to use. They're also very helpful and get any new handset all set up ready for me to just use.

There is some similar here with regards to sending codes to mobiles for some actions with the finance/banking people - BUT before I have signed with any of 'em I make perfectly clear I do not have a mobile they can use, nor will I dfeal with their "apps", so they must find another way or loose my business. So far it's worked, but, I guess, my reluctance to join the 20th century (*) can only last so long. And, again, sorry to the op - this is nothing that'll help you with your original question. * Yes - I know it is now the 21 st century. I'm really behind the phone tech times !

What is the SCA requirement?
"PSD2 requires the use of two independent sources of validation by selecting a combination of two out of the three categories1 (commonly known as the ‘two-factor authentication’):
Something you know (e.g. PIN)
Something you have (e.g. Card/phone)
Something you are (e.g. fingerprint)"
Taken from Barclay card site. I understand transactions over £30 require this so the phone is needed by anyone who uses online banking.

Not every bank has fully implemented this as yet, mine being one of them but they have asked for the mobile number for when they do.
