Hello friendly Forum dwellers, I've been lurking for a week or so now, started doing some research around this whole e-cigarette and vaping stuff after I picked up the Raconteur supplement in the Times. I'm from the US and just turned 30 and simultaneously hit another (far less hip-hip hooray) milestone, I had been smoking for 1/2 of my life. *sigh* In addition to that, the cost of cigarettes in the UK is just insane - I smoke(d) Marlies and at 8GBP a pack.... So yeah, I want rid. My brother picked up a skycig starter pack in the same edition of the times - which I think is still a pretty good deal at just under 15 incl P&P. After I tried one of his I went and bought myself the same deal. I mean, the flavours aren't particularly great (actually they're kind of poor) and I find myself running out of juice (of the battery variety ) a bit too quickly for my liking, but at least it's introduced me to the stuff. I've had the gear now for the past 3 days and with the exception of a cheeky smoke when I was at a local pub poker game the other night I haven't bought any smokes. Anyway - been reading up on various bits and paying particular attention to others' introductory posts. I've gone ahead and ordered myself some stuff from vapeescape: 2 900Mah vv passthrough batts as I spend most of my time in front of the computer doing work from home and a couple vision ego clear carts (as per maccafan's reccomendation in another thread). Got myself a sample pack of some juices from there as well and am looking forward to getting stuck in with these over the weekend (hopefully RM is in good form and these will arrive tomorrow). Right - I also wanted to say a huge thank you to the already invaluable information that I've gleaned from lurking. There seems to be an abundance of really helpful and happy people on these boards and I look forward to getting involved! I did lurk at a few others, but this one certainly seems the most friendly and open to newbies, that I've seen. A few side questions Since I got the skycig kit, I've been 'chainvaping' a bit and have already emptied a few of the carts. Based on the fact that I smoked a pack a day - what kind of amounts of juice am I likely to be going through? Would be nice to have and idea on this as my financial brain loves to see the savings over analogues straight away (and of course this helps motivation as well). I see a lot of people have remained vaping and kept it as a long term alternative to smoking. I was wondering if anybody had experience of using it as a NRT type solution? I guess the best way to do this would be to mix your own juices and progressively lower the effective nicotine content? Anybody? The carts that came with the skycig kit (there were two tobacco -likes which frankly were garbage, a cherry, menthol and vanilla) were not the best. Can someone provide some recommendations on a good tobacco, menthol, and possibly a coffee juice? I think I've gone on long enough! Thanks in Advance folks, - commonsense P.S. just looked at that in preview pane. WHOOPS! Apologies for the brain dump folks

Hello & welcome Commonsense & no need to apologise for anything As you were a pack a day smoker, you will get through (roughly) between 2 & 4ml a day. I'll leave others to suggest a good menthol & coffee flavour, but for tobacco flavours, my favourites are Black cat from Vape Escape & Drum & LnB from Paradise vapes. As you have already ordered from Vape escape, you wont need me to post a link to them, but here is the link to Paradise vapes - paradisevapeuk.vstore.ca/index.php/cName/ejuice-tobacco-flavour

Hi & welcome. Good choice of starting kit.
Some of your questions
3-5ml a day is fairly average.
Look at 18-24 mg strength, the high end to start with, so you can kill nic cravings. You can reduce strength of commercial juices either by diluting them with VG or PG from a chemist (which also dilutes flavour a bit), or just ask the vendor to make whatever strength you want. All the good ones will offer this service, including Jason & Griz at vapeescape - just ask and it will be done for you.
I originally planned to cut the nic down to nothing, but I like vaping, and nicotine alone isn't like the cocktail of nasty you get in cigarettes. No tar for starters.
On juices, just try a selection imo, or look through the reviews here, it's impossible to predict what someone will like and it also changes in the first couple of months as your tastebuds wake up.

commonsense. I'm almost in the same boat as you, got skysig Monday, Riva 1100, clearos and juice Tuesday. Wait until you try your new kit. You will be blown away by the difference. Can't recommend any particular baccy juice yet, I've yet to try most of my samplers. Best one so far is Grizwalds GY-4 from vapeescape, his take on a generic NY-4 juice that seems popular for those still wanting the taste of weed. But I don't like Marlies anyway, so it may not be for you.

Hi and welcome CS... congrats on the passthroughs you will see a huge improvement over the sky cigs i think the reason we still vape after such a long time of dumping the fags is that its still really enjoyable... you could cut down your nic level over time if you wished and some of us already have to pretty low levels to where the addiction to nicotine is negligible

I have had several customers who were determined to use e-cigs like patches and reduce down to low nic then stop. Some of them managed to do this and others just find the nic strength that suits them and continue with this.
I would say that the majority turn their vaping into a bit of a hobby and enjoy getting new flavours and bits to add to their collection.
It is a very personal choice and it will also depend on your previous smoking habits and needs.
I would say though that if you find you are sookin your stick dry both battery and liquid wise, then it could be you need a larger battery and/or stronger nic strength initially.

Annie: Thanks! Chrissie: Thanks for the welcome. I will try the Black Cat once I've worked my way through these: Griswald - 666, Caramel Espresso, Perpetu Leche, Menthol Tabac, Toffee Popcorn - Just realized there's a lot of caramel in there 2risky: Thanks bud. I'm going to guess about 4ml based on yours and Chrissie's estimation and considering I seem to be going at a rate of naught with the skycig, I'll plan for higher use for the time being. Good advice on sellers' being able to change nic content if asked. We'll see how we get along with that - early days yet, as you say. nightus: Thanks for the welcome. Not sure I'm after a pot-alike to be honest but appreciate the reccie.. Really looking forward to getting the package in the mail! Royal Mail don't fail me now!

Gordy: Thanks for the welcome. Yes, this is what I keep hearing re: decent kit over the e-cigalikes. Looking forward to it. ev: I can completely understand that this turns into a hobby. For starters the community seems super cool and down to earth plus there's always a new flavor to try. I may be starting out with the view to ween myself off nicotine, but chances are I'll be more addicted to all the kit and mods and juices. I'm a bit of gadget fiend as it turns out - so right up my alley. And cheers for the advice.

Welcome, I bought a Skycig myself but instantly switched over to something much better using juice and clearomizers, the vision 900, and I have used NRT patches, inhaler and two types of tablets, nothing has worked, since starting to vape 20 or so days ago, i have halved my ciggie use, they are starting to slowly taste crap and each one i notice how much cleaner vaping is in 3 weeks I have built up a small collection of flavours from various places listed on here, i mainly vape 18mg and i was a 10-14 silk cut smoker a day. seems to work for me, if you listen to people on here you will find the help and encouragement that I have honestly never seen from our so called national health, NRT replacement people. flavour wise I love Benson Fence & Silks for that tobacco taste, I also gotten into vanilla ice cream and murray mint, now trying some Mint Tea. all the best

Oh as an added note, you might want to start with something a little stronger than the normal 16mg and from there work it down. Just remember too much nic can make you sic, not enough makes you gruff. (That just came to me lol) #icon_idea#
