I have been reading that the mini USB on the Nexus has the OTG disabled but it is possible to get it to work after rooting the device. Google gave away hundreds of Nexus at their I/O event when they launched it knowing that people would start hacking it (cool or what) and if you look on XDA developers that is exactly what they have started doing already. I know it's not as feature rich as some of the tablets mentioned above, but apparently it's silky smooth in operation and has Jellybean, a quadcore Tegra processor and a 12 channel GPU for the graphics, the second highest pixel density after the Ipad and Gorilla glass on the front. I think it will have plenty of "headroom" that will ensure futureproofing and it will be able to be updated as new Android updates come out. If I can get the OTG to work I'll be a happy man.

I'm sure that's quite deliberate, because they want you storing everything in the cloud or on that media bollock sphere thing they do. Also, lack of connections keeps the manufacturing cost down a bit.
Maybe not so great if you want to store a load of media offline as I do.
But the processing grunt will be impressive, though there's only so much you can do with a 7" screen. Useful for external HD screens I imagine.
Didn't know it had USB OTG, that definitely takes it up a notch in value for money if you can get it going.

I've bookmarked that Mark. I've honestly no idea what I'd like. Just that I'd like something that I can use a bit easier in bed/ sitting on the settee than my laptop . . . which has a pathetic battery run time and I don't have a mains socket anywhere near convenient to use. I don't download music etc, it's really for surfing the net and going on the forums. And I don't want to spend a fortune either.

Perps I know this is totally un-ninja thinking, but have you looked at getting a new battery for the lappy?

Perps, the main choice for you seems to be screen size then. If you're OK with browsing using a Kindle-sized device, then a 7" screen is fine and you can slip it in a coat pocket as well, otherwise look at 10" screens as a sort of cut down notebook PC. All android tabs can do web surfing in one form or another. And Angry Birds of course.

Anyhoo, I've made my mind up I need a Tablet in my life. Perps, the main choice for you seems to be screen size then. Thank you 2Risky . . . it's a decent battery life and a reasonable size screen I'd like, the widgets/apps aren't of any great interest to me. May have to take myself off for a rummage round John Lewis's gizmo department, so I can see these things in the flesh.

That was my plan 2risky. I've never even held one of these tablets, so before taking the plunge I'd like to see what I think will be most user friendly for me.

I found my DD's IPad to be too heavy to hold for long periods. I needed something lighter to use in bed like i am using my phone now. Sent from my HTC smartphone Predictive text is a piece of shot.

If you want a look and feel of the tablet sizes pop into tesco - they have some android and ipad on display - me personally i go android every time but its horses for courses you just have to weigh up what they offer differently on each one

Now that does seem promising something that would do everything required. Without paying for a badge and being a slave to fashion,Linux is good and very underused.

Yeah picked one up from Germany for £200.00 with 1 GB RAM. Being flogged with win7 over here as the RM slate for £700.00 at the time and in Canada as the Exxo PC with 2 GB RAM for about $1000 Canadian. Bought a stick of 2 GB RAM and stuck it in and downloaded exxo PC BIOS and flashed and hey presto..Fully activated Win7 in a partition due to SLI BIOS.. Then another partition has a X86 Andriod ported for this device.. The original wetab OS itself is quite good and does everything one could wish for, Comes with front facing camera, mini-HDMI, 3G slot and 32gb SSD drive and I have another 32 GB SD card stick in it...
