Fancy that! I suppose she got it from FF because it's accredited to someone or other. I'm just listening to Jefferson Airplane's White Rabbit on my (getting famous/notorious) new headphones, it's great Cor, Jennifer Rush now - lord knows what I've got on here scylla

I've spent most of the day faffing around with a broken Firefox and it's still not resolved. But the pitiful thing about it, I suddenly realised that I convince myself I've been "working", doing something constructive ??? I think it's called "displacement activity" scylla

Briefly speaking, when it closed down it continued running, but if you checked Applications in Task Manager it wasn't there, you had to use the Processes tab to find firefox.exe and End Process. You couldn't open FF until you'd done that.
I found a thread about it relating to Windows7 but this is XP. I disabled all the add-ons, uninstalled Trusteer Rapport password protector (which my bank had suggested I install and which Grumps and others were shirty about but I felt obliged); then I enabled each add-on one by one, restarting FF between each, to identify the culprit but there was none, not even Google Toolbar caused a problem. Then reinstalled Rapport and Firefox didn't bat an eyelid ???
So I'm waiting for the next time. I have a sneaking suspicion that Microsoft Security Essentials (their newish free antivirus) may not be 100% compatible, it snarls up for a minute following downloads - but it's such an invisible and efficient AV in other respects that I'm keeping it, I mean to visit M$.com/forum and tell them about it.

Scylla, I'm still trying to find a way to solve the problem I'm having with my laptop not resuming properly after coming out of sleep. Apparently, it's a well known problem with Vista. Tried everything I've seen suggested so far & still not fixed the problem

Lol Lolli Scylla is far more ahead of me in the techie field . I doubt very much that I'd have been able to solve the problem she had with Firefox if it had happened to me.

laptop not resuming properly after coming out of sleep. Apparently, it's a well known problem with Vista. I used to have Vista on my posh lappy (must explain here, it's only posh by my standards ) and never had a problem - if I see anything around I'll let you know. Grumps and the other guys (and gal, Knawes) are really great but are not Vista fans or users, AFAIK. I would certainly ask them though. I don't have Vista any more because I fell for the pre-launch offer for Windows 7, thinking it would be XP on speed Have you tried phoning Medion Support? (Silly question? ) Lolli, I'm sure you're very busy with your wonderful rhyming tongues scylla

Chrissie, I've had a look around (am still looking) and cannot see a definite fix for your "Resume from Sleep" problem - as you say, it's widespread, some say USB mouse-related, some say NVidia drivers... I expect you've tried disabling mouse-resume in Power Management. My XP netbook resumes on mouse movement, if it's sleeping deeper or hibernating (I've never bothered to check if it's really hibernation) then I press the Power button to resume it. Anyway, I'll keep having a look around Later... Here's a good guide I found on the HTML board: scylla

PMSL Scylla, that is brilliant The main problem I'm getting is no sound when I resume from sleep. Tried all the fixes, disabling sound in device manager, updating drivers etc. Occasionally there are added problems - mouse not working (easily sorted by unplugging & plugging back in). No wireless connection, not so easily sorted as I again need to reboot to get it back.

Chrissie, re the wireless connection not resuming...mine sometimes does that, i go into Network connections, right click the wireless connection, select disable, then enable....that has always worked for me, might save you rebooting...
im XP but i imagine yours would be similar...
