With it being Fathers Day today, I had a visit from both my sons, and ended up getting a good kicking for being a 'silly old fart'! Having had to get another car a couple of months ago, my dear old Volvo, which I'd had for 20 years, didn't want to play anymore, I got an 04 reg Toyota, so nothing spectacular, but the insurance went up by £20 per month until renewal this month. Recently had the renewal quote of over £1,000 (auto-renewal), and I've been with them nearly 30 years and no accident claims, just a few breakdown calls. When I mentioned it to the lads, they looked at me as if I needed a brain transplant, as they'd both changed their cars recently and were paying less than half of that. So, they guided me through the comparison website and I'm ending up with a quote of just over £300 with another well known insurer for the same cover, although I need to watch out for seagulls! Plus next week I'm telling my mobile phone provider where to stick their ariel What price loyalty to these businesses, eh Plus I may get a furry animal to stick on the mantlepiece.

I'm with you completely Raffles ...I am so worried for any children being born into this world right now... there was never this fear when we were young gill2009 I think it's partly due to the fact that we didn't know about it. No 24hr news channels, no internet/social media. The most we got was an article in the 'News Chronicle' which was out of date before we read it. I don't know if it's a good thing or not that we know instantly. I do know that it upsets me.

I dread switching the telly on in the morning. If it's not a mindless terrorist incident, it's a tragedy that could have probably been avoided were it not for politicians or businesses squeezing the last bit of profit. Plus, if I hear 'lessons will be learned' again, I'll scream!
In my worst nightmare, I cannot imagine what went through the minds of those poor souls once they realised what was happening. So many lives, once again, destroyed... even if they survived, they'll have the memories.
After 70+ years on this planet, I cannot recall being so depressed about the future for our kids and grandkids, but we must keep going, right, what else is there? My thoughts are with all those affected.

... and it's bl**dy great! Am I missing the News: Nope... Totally depressing with 'so called' leaders acting like schoolyard bullies, 'mine's bigger than yours'. Pathetic kids, but it's us that suffer. Politicians tearing strips out of each other so that they can gain power and up their future income potential. Am I missing the Soaps: Nope... They've become totally ridiculous. Come back Alec Gilroy RIP. Am I missing the Entertainment: What entertainment?... Amanda flashing her **** on BGT? About the only highlight. It's a conscious decision, to just 'switch off', and get back to what matters. So, at the moment, I'm sat outside in the sunshine, listening to YouTube tracks of the 60/70s, and even Glenn Miller, and watching blackbirds, wrens, bluetits and thrushes singing away above me in the bushes and trees. You know it makes sense... enjoy YOUR time, and not anyone elses.

It's only been a couple of weeks since I stepped back a little from here, and I look in, and lobeydosser you go and pull a stunt like this You do realise you are totally out of order, and are supposed to be 'pottering' about in your garden, didn't you read the instructions from B&Q Have read the entire thread a few times now, and it certainly appears that you are making rapid progress, speech wise, but what a wake up call to us all. I think they slipped something into your 'home delivered' meals, you were OK until then! Seriously, please look after yourself and Mrs Lobey, the garden can wait... mine has been waiting for years... every best wish to you Don't think I'll look again for a while.

Raffles I could imagine you doing this for some reason Thanks Ron , but you're wrong, it wasn't an Irish Setter, it was a Daschund and I had to get down so low to reach my target which is why the car didn't see me. And regarding you're very next post, why do you think I always carry a can of WD40 with me, just in case I get lucky... although haven't needed it yet cos I can't find what I'm supposed to squirt it on!

Love your rambles raffles keep em coming!Cooincidently i had one go in our multi ceiling light in the lounge. They all were put in there 3 years ago. So not bad. Still keep meaning to do the whole house...but (touch wood) even the normal bulbs are lasting and wont blow! Thanks thebishman , but it's just a natural process of ageing!

Just had another halogen, energy efficient, long lasting, bl**dy expensive light bulb blow after a few months. I need at least four spares at any one time. And yet, in the bathroom, the original (probably 20 years old bulb from when I moved in, now illegal) is still going strong, and gives a better light. It could be a case of not bathing at night, and therefore not used as much, but 20 years? Anyway, just thought I'd take your mind of the serious issues of the day, and I am trying to save the planet! I feel better for that.

Well done Q I've spent about a tenner on vaping since Xmas (top up juice). If I'm in company or just 'out and about' I don't even think about it, or even take it with me. It's only when I'm 'home alone' on my recliner watching telly when I'm vaping with my left hand and drinking with my right. I'm sure if I had Kylie in my left hand I could give it up altogether. Vaping has done its job, better than I could have imagined.

What was wrong with the original?
No need to see how they got there... far too much information! I'm afraid to go to the loo now, in case someone is filming it with wi-fi, and I'll appear in a commercial, or worse! Although I am open to offers

Hi lobeydosser , if you're thinking of the ones that advertise on TV, I had a brochure delivered a couple of years ago, and yes they do look good in the pictures, but compared to supermarket meals they seemed a little expensive. Although I do believe they will be of better quality. Plus how big is your freezer? It obviously depends on your own circumstances... I'm on my own (boo hoo), and have a small fridge/freezer plus I don't know what I want to eat until I want to eat it! Fortunately, I'm still able to jump in the car and get it from my local supermarket. That day is soon approaching when I won't be able to do that, so it's either toast for breakfast, dinner & tea, or pay up and enjoy the benefits of growing old in the UK ? ... I'd better stop now before it gets political! PS I suddenly fancy fish & chips, and that wasn't what I ordered a week ago!

I'm not online so much lately, as I've nothing to say, BUT... I couldn't miss the opportunity to wish my favourite Scottish LADY gill2009 a Very Happy Birthday Although, judging by the empty voddie bottles outside your door, (via my webcam), you may not see this until tomorrow!
