Blimey, I've got to go back to the mid 50's when I started smoking and they were Kensitas (I think that's the spelling) and they were what my Mum smoked, also Weights depending on how much pocket money I got. I also smoked A1 tobacco which is what my Dad smoked, then Embassy No. 1 for years and also B&H, Golden Virginia roll ups, numerous brands of cigars, John Player Special (black originals) - can't remember any more but I'm sure there are others I've missed!

The way I look at it, there are something like 4,000 chemicals in cigarette smoke (if the stuff you read is true). Many of these are known carcinogens. Others are nasty in their own way. Nicotine is addictive, in the same way as caffeine, but has no proven harmful effects on the body. I'll stick with my nicotine thank you very much and kiss goodbye to the other 3,999 I think that's very true and the way I think at the moment, it's interesting that no one at the moment has come on here and replied that they vape with no nicotine, I suppose you could say what's the point in vaping without the nicotine but I was just curious that's all.

I must admit that at the moment I'm virtually chain vaping, I still can't put it down, now that maybe (probably is!) because the e cigs I am using at the moment aren't high enough dosage for me yet after smoking 60 a day. It's early days for me and I've got a little way to go before I find the right level I guess but in the meantime, I'm thoroughly enjoying myself.

My plan was to wean myself of the nicotine, but I've never got round to it. It doesn't seem to be that bad for you (if that changes I shall have to review my decision) and it gives me alot of pleasure, so at the moment, I'm staying as I am. That's an honest reply!! This is only my intention, now whether I will be able to do it is another matter. I guess I've got rid of the worst bit which is the smoking and by comparison the nicotine addiction is not so bad but I was just wondering what kind of percentage of people went the complete way with zero nicotine. It's not important but just curious.

Hi, I'm very new to vaping but a long time smoker, I've only been vaping for a few days but totally hooked on it and haven't had a real cig since I started and with no intention of having one either, so committed am I that I ordered a Rivo 1100 today after a couple of days of vaping.
Anyway, my question is this, my intention is to eventually weed myself off the nicotine but still vape, is this a normal thing with you hardened vape users on here because at this precise moment I can see me doing without the nicotine but I really can't see me doing away with the 'smoking' sensation - is this wrong?

Oh I'm so jealous, I ordered my Rive 1100 today (not pink though cos I'm a bloke ) and it won't be delivered until tomorrow morning, in the meantime I'm pulling on my 10 Motives disposable as I type this and to be honest, as I don't know any different yet then even this is pretty awesome so can't wait for the morning when postie walks down the drive. Way to go Pinky and hope you're enjoying it so far.

You lot crack me up! We get on pretty well with our postie, if it's small package but too large to get through the letter box he will leave a dummy card through the door saying he's left it inside the BBQ - obviously not when it's lit though. We're both in tomorrow morning so I can experiment with it and then vape all day long!!

Vaporized, I think as you are a 60 a day smoker, you need a higher nicotine content than what you have ordered - at least 24mg if not 36mg. if you quickly email Jason (Vape Escape) I'm sure he will change your order for you. Hi Chrissie, it's now been shipped but no worries, I'll give this a go for now and see how I get on, if I find that I need the higher strength then I can order some for delivery next day. Can't wait for tomorrow morning now, really getting quite excited.

Hi Dave, someone older than me - nah, I don't believe it! I saw the nicotine/tar bit when I posted it and saw it was wrong but I just thought that people would understand what I meant - and you did! My fault totally, I'm getting all my numbers and terminology mixed up but I'm learning, all I've had to do up until now was to go and buy a packet of fags (or several) and smoke them, this is like going into a chemistry lab at school for the first time and learning all the different terms.

I had to double read your post and double answer you. Either you have typed a figure wrong or don't grasp the equations, neither are enough to worry about, but if it makes things a little easier I will explain. In a pack of your jps, each cigarette contains 10mg of tar not nicotine. Rather the nicotine content would be around 0.8 - 1.0 mg. (20 x 0.8 =16) so a pack of 20 cigarettes would hold around 16 mg of nicotine and around a whopping 200mg of tar. The eliquids are sold in mg per ml. Eg 11 18 24 36 and the general consensus is that people who smoked an average of 20 cigarettes ad day would use 18mg strength eliquid, it's not simply a case though of multiplying your 3 packs by 18mg and trying to smoke 54mg strength eliquid, this would make yo overdose on nicotine very quickly as its all in 1ml and would make you quite ill. As Tim says the nicotine absorption rates are different in us all... Perfect explanation - thank you. ...Wow, ow my fingers hurt, I'm off for a vape, coconut and banana for the record, WITH ZERO TAR TYVM. And that my friend is just where I want to be in a few months time - vaping but with no nicotine, I am so looking forward to that, in the meantime I shall be a slave to it for a while longer but at least I'm on my way.

As Tim says, sometimes it's just best to listen to your body though, for people like you, or all of us for that matter, we generally know when we're not getting enough, and our bodies will complain. Too much or too little you will soon know, but great question. Nice to have some idea of where to start to avoid any unnecessary feelings. The things you notice at the beginning though are all the positives you get from giving up smoking, more energy, no morning cough, deeper cleaner breathing. Not to mention sense of smell, taste and generally feeling better. Absolutely true, I can already feel some of the benefits, the most prominent one is that I feel more alert for some reason which can be no bad thing. Has there been any noted bad side effects from vaping? I hope not as I'm really getting into this now and would hate to go back to smoking normal cigs.

OK, thanks for that, that makes sense. I've just managed to put in a sneaky order while I'm at work to Vapeescape and ordered: The VE Riva 1100 Deluxe Kit in White 2 x 30ml Bottles of Gold and Silver 18mg 2 x 30ml Bottles Silky 18mg So that should keep me going for a while, no doubt as I get in to then I will adjust things here and there like nicotine strength etc and try some of the other flavours along the way too - exciting init! Right, off to have another vape now.

...Put your slippers on, your'e in for a great journey!! ... That was so funny as that is just me - slippers on and puffing away in the lounge. One more question I thought of before I order this morning and that is up until Monday I was smoking on average about 60 a day JPS Blacks which have a nicotine content of only 10mg so am I right in saying that the nicotine content of an ordinary cig would be the same as for a vape or is there a formula that works out to an equivalent? I just want to make sure that I get the right 'dosage' if that's the correct phrase, the 10 Motives I'm vaping at the moment are 18mg and I'm getting through those like there is no tomorrow, they are supposed to be (according to the packaging) the equivalent of 30 ordinary cigs and as I'm using about two a day then I guess the equates to 60 a day which is about right. Any help and advice much appreciated.

Hi and Vapourized Chrissie has linked you to a really good starter kit almost all of us have or have had one in our time vaping. One thing I will point out is that the cartomisers and the Vision Ego that you get in the kit (they're the bits that contain a heating coil and hold the liquid) are consumable items, the cartomisers will last between 3 to 7 days each and the Vision 7 - 10 days if you're a heavy vaper. They get a carbon deposit building up on the coils that stops them working efficiently. You can do some maintenance on them to keep them running longer, but we'll deal with that later. So in your first few days vaping see which type you prefer then buy at least 2 weeks supply of what you like to use, then keep them stocked up and do the same for the liquid you like, that way you'll not run out before you can get more. We have a mantra here "get back ups for your back ups!" Please keep asking questions, no matter how trivial they may seem. And please let us know how you get on. WOW!! What a great, informative and friendly forum this is, I must admit that like all new posts on a new forum, I was a little hesitant as to what kind of reaction I would get but this has been a great experience so thanks to all of you who have helped and advised me tonight and I will of course let you know how I get on.

Vapourized the kit is a great choice. 20ml of juice won't last you long - most people seem to average 3-5ml per day, often more when they first start. I'd also get a pik'n'mix selection of other flavours, as many of us find we actually prefer non-tobacco flavour vaping edited for typo OK, I'll do that as well as it makes sense to push it all into one order. If the average is 3-5ml then your right, I will need something like a 20ml bottle - noted and thanks.
