First of all, apologies for starting another Vivi Nova related thread. Like a number of people, judging by the posts here and elsewhere, I'm struggling to maintain a healthy relationship with my Vivi Nova. After getting the dreaded burnt taste with the 2.4 ohm head after 5/6 days of intermittant use I swapped over to the supplied 1.8 ohm head only to find that, a half tank later, the taste was back. I thought I'd have a go at converting a head to a stainless steel mesh (parts will be ordered as soon as I get my head around the different types of wire) so with that in mind I took apart the original 2.4 ohm head - pictures of burnt innards attached. A few questions spring to mind: - Is the burnt gunk around the coil burnable-offable? Or is this just a sign that the head needs to be replaced?
- Has anyone here fitted an SS mesh to their Vivi Nova? I've seen a few people saying they have had good results but has it lasted? The burn mark on the rubber grommit also has me thinking that it may also be in part responsible.
- Looking around for alternatives there seems to be a big jump in price between cheaper atomisers like the Vivis/Kangers and the sturdier Penelopes/DIDs. Are there any out there I've missed that bridge the gap? Would love to try a Genesis style rebuildable but am trying hard to make vaping a cheaper alternative to smoking!
Thanks! Attachments:

Indeed - It would take a fair bit of effort to set up.
I'm thinking though that the end result though would be that we could go to a single page on the forum and have a list of all the (for example) vanilla flavours making it very to go through them, compare them and find a vendor.
The reason I'm suggesting this is because I would expect this would be the main reason why people here would use a flavourings section.
The way the board is organised should make it easier for people to use so maybe we've jumped a step here: how do people envisage using this?

I think it would make sense to group the flavours by type: - easier to compare different vendors' versions of similar flavours
- easier to find vendors of a desired flavour
I imagine that a two level hierarchy could also be useful, eg: - Tobaccos
- Fruits
- Drinks (soft)
- Drinks (alcoholic)
- Desserts
- Savoury
- and so on...
...with for example fruits expanding to: - Stawberry
- Peach
- Melon
- Apple
- Tomato
- Avocado
- and so on...

I see what you're saying and agree that it would be unwise to tip all non-nil-nic juice down the drain. I've had similar experiences when I've stopped smoking in the past - about 4 times for a total of 3 years or so - each time I cracked it was due to stressful circumstances. It would of course be far better to fall back onto nicotine juices rather than to start smoking again.
To my mind the decreasing in nicotine is just the next step along the path of harm reduction - albeit maybe a harder one than the step from smoking to vaping.

The amount of time an effort that some of you guys put into these things never ceases to amaze me - cheers for the links!

Nick I've been buying zero nic for a couple of months. I didn't feel any difference between Hi/Med/Low. Once on 0mg I realised iwasnt getting an annoying tingling on the tip of my tongue & no chemical aftertaste which I now realise is probably the taste of the nicotine. I haven't experienced any nicotine cravings & haven't had a nicotine rush when vaping some of the nic juices in my stash. I'm surprised you didn't feel much of a difference between different strengths - makes me think I ought to try cutting down on nic content sooner! May also ask my girlfriend to get her sphygmomanometer (full disclosure: I Googled the spelling) out and take my blood pressure over a few weeks to watch for changes.

My other half (a GP) has had similar concerns regarding my health and vaping - she did a bit of research and came to similar conclusion as above.
My own longer term goal is to gradually decrease the amount of nicotine that I vape. This would be pretty hard with cigarettes but if mixing your own juice or mixing juices of different strengths it should be possible to decrease the nicotine content VERY gradually until your juice is nicotine free.
Still to be out into application but I was thinking along the lines of half a mg every few weeks should be little enough as to not affect my cravings and allow me to get down to a very low or zero nicotine level within a year or so.
Has anyone tried anything like this?

Hi Matt, I'm pretty new to all this too so probably not the most informed as to what kit you would be best starting out with. That said, I was given a Riva starter kit including a couple of batteries, some cartomisers and a clearomiser for my birthday a few weeks ago (thanks dad!) and have found it great - enough to get me off the cigs (last smoke 5 and a half days ago and counting). Regarding flavours, a lot of vendors sell small 5ml bottles which aren't too pricey and will give you a chance to have a feel around for the sort of flavours you'll enjoy. I started off with a Pick 'n' Mix from VapeEscape ( www.vapeescape.co.uk/search.asp?types=Grizwald%27s+Gourmet+Range+%3E+Pick+%27n%27+Mix), getting a range of different types of flavours, eg: tobacco, fruity, desserty, minty, etc. I'm sure I've seen similar packages elsewhere. Admittedly, I found there's a bit of trial and error involved and have bought some juices that I probabaly won't ever finish but over the past couple of weeks I've definitely narrowed it down somewhat and feel much more confident about choosing juices. If you're on a budget and find you have a number of juices that you don't like you could always ask around and see if anyone is up for some swapping. In the long term though, I'm sure that unless you spend too much time on the forums and get kit-envy, it's still a money saver. Good luck with your first steps into vaping - hope you enjoy it as much as I and many other people here do! Edit: typo, and crikey - left my pc for a bit while answering and there's a page full of responses!

Frogster, if it's a better way of sharing that you're after a quick & easy way to do so is to upload your PDF to Google Docs then share the URL. If you have a Google account that is...

Started vaping 16 days ago and straight away my cigarette consumption dropped to 3/4 a day. My last packet of cheap foreign baccy ran out about this time on Saturday and I haven't felt the need to get any more.
So after 48 hours smoke-free:
Me: most chuffed.
Girlfriend: worried I may be developing an unhealthy obsession with vaping kit & liquids.

Thanks Perp - sounds straightforward enough!
As for you Frogster, I lack the words to express what I'm feeling for you right now... :-)

Yes - the word "oil" is a little confusing. Do you know if there is any way of determining which are suitable for vaping?
I'm guessing the ones which are insoluble in water would contain oil and shouldn't be vaped. Others don't have PG listed in the ingredients so I would imagine these should also be avoided.
Most are labelled as appropriate/inappropriate for use in chocolates and coatings - could this also be a clue to their suitability?
Apologies if this has been covered before and if it is just a case of trial and error then I'll shut up and start buying! :-)

I've been looking around for flavourings and besides all the usual sources I came across a few suppliers of the Lorann range in the UK which I haven't seen mentioned here before: Has anyone used any of the above before?
