My hands were trembling a bit when I made my first SS wick too (almost exactly 6 days ago!) and although I'm miles away from perfecting it, it's not as scary as it first seemed. Definitely quite a bit of trial and error required to start with and unless you have the means of mesuring the resistance of your coil on a well protected device I would aim for higher resistance - more wraps - to get a feel for it. May the more experienced correct me if need be. Gas hob seems to do the trick fine for me so far - no intention of buying any other oxidisation tool! Have fun! Edit - typos...

Mine is turning into a knightmare. Spent ages making a wick, made coil with drill bit, hot spot (x 5), then shorts, so re did wick, shorts seemed to cause my provari to put out waaaay more than the 3v I was burning in coils with and broke 3 before I worked it out, by burning out 2 vivi novas. After leaving the provari for a couple of hours, it seemed to get back to normal voltages. Re oxidized wick a few times, burnt off 6 loads of juice on it. Built new coil, E1 short, provari on next try threw out again a massive voltage, this time on the FG wick I'd thrown in out of desperation. So now I'm vaping the FG wick (Meh, it's ok) on my LT and wondering where it all went wrong. I was under the impression that Provari's were protected against shorts and the like - faulty unit? Completely uneducated guess but if it started working again after a couple of hours my first guess would be that something did some serious overheating then went back to normal after cooling down. Have been having loads of trouble getting my mesh and coil set up too but seem to have done away with the hotspots after finding out about the Rizla technique: No more hotspots! Next goal - more wraps!

Just flashing my wick... Vaping really well compared to the clearomisers & cartomisers I've used, but with it being my first of this type (the first that I've seen in the flesh in fact!) it's hard to find a basis for comparison. The flavour is really good but not getting the vapour production I've seen on some videos. My LT is showing 1.5 ohms and at 3-4 second blasts the coil stays dark but I am getting a glow between wick and pin for anything longer. Am thinking maybe it's a wicking issue and should try a slightly less dense wick - was a bit ambitious and wrapped up 80mm: fits nice and snug. Removing the filler hole screw doesn't make a difference. Social life is about to get in the way again but more playing around tonight methinks! Attachments:

It may not even be that much, do a bit, check it, do more if needed, don't be tempted to do it all in one go! Don't worry - it'll be grind - test - grind - test - grind - test - grind - test all the way!

Now that you mention it - the threads are about 1mm apart so to get about a half turn more only about 0.5mm needs to be ground off. Hands starting to tremble a bit less.
Mesh has just arrived but tinkering time will have to happen later on!
Ordered an A4 sheet of 500 from themeshcompany and got another A4 and a half of 325 with it - can't wait to play!

I've just been gazing at mine and hoping for meshmail... I've just set mine up. My wick hole is 180 degrees out so i've used the conection on the other side and put my wick in the filler hole. Works very well, better than i expected to be honest. I will sand the cap down sometime this weekend and make a wider wick. The air hole on mine is 180°-ish out too so was thinking about sanding the cap down. A quick look at the inside rim of the cap reveals that it's bevelled (for better contact with the o-ring?) so I fear that the seal may not be perfect if I grind the cap down enough to get another half turn on it. Ie: that the o-ring will not fit inside the un-bevelled inside diameter of the cap. Has anyone taken the plunge yet?

When I first started vaping everyone in my workplace was curious and supportive ("just maybe keep it out of sight when clients are in") and after a few trial runs and providing some reassurance regarding second hand vapour, it was agreed that I could vape away at my desk.
After a couple of weeks of doing so only one of my colleagues had any objections: some tobacco juices I vaped did leave a lingering smell so, fair enough, I would avoid those at work. He also felt that the vapour was giving him a bit of a headache on one occasion and that it would often give him a dry sensation at the back of his throat.
All the others around me have been fine about it - most not noticing at all.
Following the above, I'm now vaping outside next to a bus stop and getting lots of strange looks from passing travellers.

I had a look at them genesis attys, they are not for me, I can guarantee I would loose the screws or something lol. I think I will have to wait for the v5 nova to come out (the 1 with the chrome tank with a viewing window and just pray that it's built better than my mini nova Yeah - I gather it's not easy to get started with them but vapers do seem to have a lot of praise for them when set up correctly. To put a positive spin on it: I'm looking forward to the challenge! :-) Will keep a lookout for reviews of the v5s... Splitfire/Hyper 4 looks interesting too!

Have been having the exact problem and have also been whinging about it online. I think I've been swayed by the idea of a rebuildable genesis style atty and have been given a couple of examples that aren't too pricey :

I'd defo recommend a genesis type with ss wick - got myself one from vapour hut and it's brilliant - VERY frustrating at first, learning how to wick and coil....but once you've got it down .... effin lovely. Put a curved stainless steel mesh in my nova just the other day, following Todd's tutorial...works lovely and very easy to do. Yup, Todd's tutorial was the one I first stumbled upon - makes it look pretty easy! (I'm sure it's not as easy as that at first though) Found the Vapour Hut rebuildable - looks very reasonable too. Will hunt around for some reviews tomorrow!

I've been using 2 juices with that head: white chocolate (Grizwald's) and vanilla custard (Pixie Juice). Both are definitely the sort that I could vape all day!
Thanks for the vapingthings lead - first time I've seen anything like those at that price. Unfortunately they're out of stock at the mo :-( (but will keep a close eye on the site!)
Nothing to lose so willl give burning a go but think a cheap rebuildable sounds like the right next move - wish I'd seen the thread for the Aga-T group buy before the order went in.
Thanks for the feedback!

My dad just pointed me in the direction of this thread - wish I'd seen it before the order went in!
So... when's the next group buy planned? :-)
