Just pmed you Phil thanks very much! I think the whole of Kings Cross had a bad rep back in the day! Saw some right sights there after dark! All changed now I see. It cleaned it's act up after you stopped lurking down the goodsway. Lets hope you don't drag it back down.:-) Well, since I retired trade went down the pan. They all moved on....

I am refusing to like a post if you don't believe in Santa Or come to think of it. Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy I hope the tooth fairy is real. It wont be long before i start losing them again Oh!! They are definitely real. My 6yr old granddaughter had her first visit a couple of months back. I told her a white lie and said dragonflies are tooth fairies. Now, if she spots one by the river bank she goes into meltdown!

Mrs Santa Dolly Claus. I believe you as I believe in Santa, so tell Mr Santa Claus to not leave me out this year or I might stop believing and opt for another religion. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas Mr and Mrs Claus. Best wishes Hun xxxx

By the way well done @marks, pub had a shocking reputation 10 years ago, now a cracking little(quite big) boozer. Edit: as this is now confirmed, can we book the stripper for your b'day? Just pmed you Phil thanks very much! I think the whole of Kings Cross had a bad rep back in the day! Saw some right sights there after dark! All changed now I see.

alanfinal as usual, can I confirm there are no stairs? From looking at the venue and you saying its in the back bar I presume I should be ok? If so I am definitely up for the meet and a maybe for broadcasting house as I need to find someone to help me with my wheelchair. Not sure what shifts puffingbilly is on yet. Merry Christmas to you Alan, and all the great people I have met this year at our meets. This time last year, I was pretty low, housebound and lonely. Since getting my special car enabling me to join in, it has given me a new lease of life ad I thank you all for that.

Hi Jeff
Merry Christmas to you and all your family. It was a real pleasure to meet you at VF this year. Hopefully I get to see you again in 2014.
I don't want to flood the board with another Christmas thread, so, can I wish everyone at AAEC a very happy and peaceful Christmas from Dolly and family. Xxxx

Happy Birthday all of you I hope you still get treated special even though its Christmas. One of my granddaughters was born on Boxing Day and I feel a bit sorry for her so always try to make an extra effort.

Wasn't there a Monty Python sketch where a bloke goes into a bookshop and demands a copy of the Bumper Book of British Birds - but without the Gannet.... Seems to me that if you apply for a job you need to acquaint yourself with the duties you are potentially taking on. If you feel that you are unable to carry out some of those tasks for ethical or religious reasons then don't apply for the job! I have an aversion to killing animals, so I would never apply for a job in a slaughterhouse. A friend of mine (a staunch Catholic) refuses to work in a shop that sells contraceptives. I doubt you will find any qualified surgeons who are Christian Scientists. So having strong religious or ethical beliefs may limit your employment opportunities.... Everybody is entitled to their own beliefs - but they are not, in my view, entitled to insist that everybody else changes their lives (or employment practices) to come into line with them. Spot on! I don't care what religion colour or creed anyone is. As long as they treat me well that is all I ask for. My issue is if said person encroaches on me and my life. Do I really want to be at the end of a queue when I go shopping, getting held up and frustrated whilst we all have to wait for other staff to come over to do something that would take all of a few seconds to do? No I don't!!

Wonderful stuff Lobey. I would love to do that myself, but, sadly, I was abandoned by my mother when I was 6weeks old and ended up being adopted by my paternal grandparents. It has only been since the death of all my paternal side of the family that I have had the urge to find out about my ancestry. Because none of them are alive it would be very hard work and to be honest, I wouldn't know where to start on my mothers side. I hope you have lots more fun doing it.

Selective editing there fiddles. That article also says "However, many of these same scholars take into consideration the circumstances. For those living in non-Islamic countries, who are mandated to abide by insurance law, there is no sin in complying with the local law." In that case, if you also wish to go work in a shop that sells alcohol and pork products aren't you able to comply with the remit of that retailer and, instead go work in a shoe shop or the fashion department of M&S instead of the food side. It's the same as a teetotaler going to work in a pub and saying they are willing to sell you a tonic water but I won't sell you the gin.

You just saved me a google search fiddles I didn't know whether he was correct or not but it seems he was. I am also aware that they have special banking requirements due to not being able to accept normal loans due to interest payments, which is also not allowed under Islam.... Geez, at this rate I might convert myself!!

It is ridiculous. Just been listening to a phone in show on the radio about this. Even Muslims were phoning in saying if it bothers them that much don't work in a food shop!! Problem solved. One Muslim guy said that every Muslim driver in the UK is going against Islam anyway because insurance is not allowed in their religion, but, as he rightly said, if he chooses to live in a non Muslim country and the law states it is a legal requirement to have car insurance he has to forego his beliefs.
There were some people ringing in stating that it would be a good idea to have special checkouts for workers who won't sell alcohol or pork. FFS, if that's the case, half the checkouts will be designated to umpteen different religious beliefs and the animosity from customers will be astronomical. The world is going mad.
