A small but wide elastic band wrapped around the air holes works too. Looks bleedin daft mind, but works a treat. Hey, if it works, then what's not to like?! LOL Love the idea of a rubber band, wish I'd thought of that myself!

I could indeed, and then I'd know if they work too, but this already does work fine. I was looking those over and they look very nice and all, I even had one in the basket for a minute or two, but this was just so much easier. To choose paying £2.99 for an unknown item over using something I had already spent £0.02 is a bit counter intuitive for me too! Thanks for the link though! I agree but then you already had a £9.99 box of rings But never the less a good find and I thank you for sharing it with us Yes, being an inveterate tinkerer, I saw them sat there and thought, "now they could come in handy, and you can never find one when you want one", and they have been handy over time, and this was just one more lucky time. It was a bit like inventor or tinkerer's shinyitis I guess. I'd guess you could prossibly pick them up in smaller amounts all over the place in the DIY sheds too.

Read a discussion on another forum with kanthal coming out on top Have you tried the meshcompany for kanthal as i bought some kanthal .20 there a couple of weeks back and cant speak highly enough of them(there on ebay also) No, not tried, as this is my first ever purchase. I went to another supplier and they had some Kanthal 0.20 like I wanted in the first place, so I threw it in the basket along with some other bits I was buying from them anyway. I'll maybe try other sizes over time to see if I need higher resistance too. I tend to like a 2.5-2.8 res in my protank, so I can learn in that, and then when I get a bit of time I shall go get an octo RBA from fasttech I guess. Not sure it's worth spending a whole lot on a first go with these things! Thanks for the info, I will look into that as I go along.

They look very similar to the other ones linked to. Have you tried one? Thanks for the link.

I'll definitely give that a go. Good idea mate Welcome, hope you have as much luck with it as I am having. I found you can sort of tweak it a bit too, just apply gentle pressure to the ring and it sort of adjusts how tight it is in one spot or another. It seems you can endlessly play with the ring like that and get all sorts of differing effects!

I've only recoiled 2 heads so far, using 0.16 nichrome - not a problem. When I suddenly added wick & wire to an order several months back, all they had was 0.16 nichrome, so that's what I got. I don't really know what the difference between nichrome & kanthal would be. May try kanthal when my 5m has run out I was reading here earlier and someone said that nichrome has a greater expansion rate under heat, so it might well make a coil go less tidy, and so keeping a good shape to the coil might be harder from what I could understand. Also some say flavour is cleaner with Kanthal, so I think I shall go there in preference. The out of stock thing is exactly what I am facing, so yanked the wick and the nichrome out of that sellers basket and put kanthal and wick in the competitor's one. Was actually cheaper too! LOL I'm having to shop with 4 new retailers tomorrow just to get the stuff I want to be in stock! Silly situation really! This all started wanting to do my first go at mixology, and has ended up here so I got a dripper for testing juices! What a shinyitis snowball that was! Shall be able to get a 4 way supplier review out of it too!

One-stop-shop hereThinner wire, higher resistance (with the same number of coils) More coils, higher resistance. Thanks for very quick reply Fred, appreciate it, I just read about expansion in nichrome and it has me a bit bothered (not very newb friendly I suspect), so I may just have to go to another place which has some Kanthal stock! Oh Gawd! There is always something isn't there! LOL

Hi all, Thought I would try a cheapo Octo RBA quite soon, I'm trying to do a "one stop shop" too, and wanted some Kanthal 0.2 for it, but for right now can only get my hands on Nichrome 0.21 - would that get me by for learning to coil the thing? Just while I try to source the Kanthal when there is time for that. Never been here before, hence daftish newb question! Not had time to look into the differences yet, but want to get something that can work if at all possible. Other choices are .15 and .25, I tend to favour higher res rather than lower. Should I maybe go .25 for longer life? (assuming I have the characteristics of the sizes the right way around in my head - possibly not!) ???

Well done Sir! What a lovely post too! It gave me the feeling that we might all be able to get away with this eventually.

Hi all, Been reading up on loads of fixes for this, yet I still see people saying they have a problem. Well I think I may well have solved it, for those who have a V1 Protank and a V2 Vamo at least, and quite probably for a fair few others I'd guess. I went nuts and broke out an 'o' ring from a box of them I bought on Amazon. With the tank already fitted to the Vamo, the o ring is simply slid down the tank until it hits the step where the two diameters differ. I use my finger nail just to snug it right down to bear onto the top surface of the Vamo. As far as I can work out the air is likely now only drawn though the gaps in the knurling pattern on the tank base, and I have found that limits it to being about as tight as my evod, and very probably a little more tight again. Flavour feels enhanced and, gurgling gone, and just one pop per draw, no great amount of crackling now either. however my hearing is no longer all it could be and yours might well be better! LOL Here's a pic (hopefully - first go at this) The box of 419 rings by Brookstone presently costs £9.99 on Amazon, so let's just call this my two pence worth in trying to solve the draw for those who'd prefer something a little tighter! Hope it helps somebody, enjoy!

Good call that man! It more or less duplicates the same kit I bought to fix up the slightly less than wonderful starter kit I got as my first purchase. I've not really looked back or even sideways since going there. I did in fact tell another today that if I were starting over tomorrow, but knew what I know now, then I would have got that in the first place. It's extremely unlikely it would be anything but a success. That 's not to say it can't be done other ways, but I have to say it worked out fine for me. I know that can be solid kit. You won't need two of them, but if you could easily afford it then that would be fine too. I'd guess the thing I am thinking about the most right now is maybe another 4 batteries, sometime soon-ish, just to make life really comfortable for the precise kit I have, as I only got two cells so far.

510 Tap & Die 7mm x .5 - tap for battery connector, die for atomiser. 901 Tap and Die 8mm x .75 - die for battery connector, tap for atomizer. 4xx Series Tap and Die 7mm x .5 Same as for the 510 just reversed usage for the tap and die. 1xx Series Tap & Die 8mm x .75 Same as for the 901 just reversed usage for the tap and die. Ego thread is 12mm X .5 A handy list, and thanks very much indeed for it!
