Janie - welcome and well done for giving vaping a go. 6 months now for me.......... and loving it as a replacement for over 40 years of being a smelly smoker.

Chrissie - our guru/board leader, frequently asks newbies to clarify what they are seeking - i.e. 'something that looks like a real cig - or not'.

My view on that question - as a new vaper - is to actually want to look different - possibly (no, definitely) because I don't want to be challenged by anyone/anywhere - on the basis that I am 'smoking'. I am not smoking; I am vaping. Huge difference. So I am happy that my vaping 'gizmo' - whilst emitting vapour (which looks like smoke) causes confusion and curiosity because it is coming from a strange appliance that doesn't resemble a real cig - visually is not an obvious real cigarette.

I have totally adjusted now - which I managed to achieve very quickly - to holding my 'e-cigarette' in a very different manner. It adds to my acceptance and belief that I 'do not smoke' any more. It broke one of the habits of smoking, that being holding something between the first two fingers - which is what 'smokers' do with tobacco cigs.

Much of giving up 'smoking' (and taking up vaping) for me has been the breaking of normal habits. If you have been a long-term smoker, as I was, I think the 'breaking of habits' is a huge step forward. I used to: fill kettle, switch it on, then have to light a cigarette. Happy to say that 'habit' is no longer evident.
