Lilac, Have you considered putting him onto a raw food diet? I've just started Mungo on this and it has had a dramatic effect on him...
When my magnificent Billy was diagnosed with cancer and put onto steroids, I just used to leave the back door open for him when I was at work. Mind you, my back garden is enclosed by houses and was relatively safe.
I hope he improves soon.Hugs to Kezie and Gizmo too. Lynda

What does that entail, Lynda...i'd consider trying anything within reason...when it's allergies tho, most likely to protein sources, im not sure it'd help? that sounds like a great idea, would certainly save a lot of hassle, leaving the back door open, but i would be afraid of burglaries, i'd come home to a freezing house and if Murphy saw Tyson going in and out, he'd howl the place down and if he was allowed to as well, i'd prob have the neighbours complaining, cos he's such a yappy wee thing, he barks at fresh air

Lilac,
I'll dig out a link for you on raw food. It seems like a much more natural way to feed them..

Ok, thanks Lynda Why did you put Mungo on it, does he have health problems? does he enjoy eating it? a lot of the problem is i don't know what it is that he's allergic too...i do know that they tend to have probs with red meat, wheat & maize, but as the vet said, when they're that way, they can become allergic to loads of stuff and its upwards of £400 to be tested, and the next week they could start reacting to something else...

I've read before that we shouldn't be feeding our cats and dogs on these manufactured foods - easier said than done, and the creatures do love their Whiskas/Chum/Iams etc. Raw meat is said to be much better for their teeth because of the enzymes in it. You should freeze raw meat and then defrost before feeding, cos that kills parasites. That's all I remember. Very pleased that Kezie seems to have turned the corner scylla

Lilac, hope you have everything backed up on your PC? I lost so much when the HD died on my lappy Scylla, Kezie is so much better - still sneezing & snivelling a bit (so are the rest of them), but more or less back to her normal self

Lilac, I put Mungo onto raw for a couple of reasons.. 1. He moults as if hair is going out of fashion. 2. He came to me, at the age of 3, with poor teeth. He had to have a couple of extractions. He loves his new diet. His teeth are clean and his breath is fresh, and he has a much better coat. Dogs don't have the amylase in their saliva that is necessary for digesting carbs and so they can begin to build up tartar. Most vets have very little training in dog nutrition and most of what they DO have is sponsored by the big pet food suppliers. Most vets sell Science plan food. It sells at a high price but doesn't necessarily provide quality. www.dogfoodanalysis.com/I don't know if I'm doing the right thing for Mungo but it seems more natural, more normal for a carnivore. I will keep him on his raw meat now and am encouraging Daisy to eat more raw. Chrissie, what was wrong with Kezie? I mised that somehow. I'm relieved to know that she is feeling better.. Lynda
