Just press the piece of wire running from the screw to the wick downwards using a toothpick/cocktail stick so that it grounds on the base..That'll sort it..

Hmm.... me too, must have just got a duff one. Knew I should have ordered a few especially at a quid each. Even with a bit of juice to help this one is as my Aussie friend would say, tighter than a nuns nastie

Gently using the cocktail stick move the coils about a bit and try at low voltage. You are doing this on a lavatube I take it.
If there are too many, take the wick out leaving the coil in place and douse it with some juice and set it alight once or twice. Then slide the wick back in and try..

Try loosening the top nut and gently bend the wick towards the post and tighten the nut back down..

Yes that helps too..
Keep with it and the gunk will build up and it'll be lovely after you put about a tank through it.

Had an opportunity to clean my Chinese genesis today. A couple of pics for those who might want to see how the coils should glow when dry on a half decent setup.. 1.9 ohm coil at 4.0 volts..5 wraps of Kanthal 0.2..Tank is made from a 10ml syringe and so is PP which is better than PC for e-juice and also takes stress better but is less transparent..

Did you make the wick so it doesn't sit on the bottom of the tank?

That wick I used40 x 40 mm wicks of 400 mesh..The recommended size is 40 x 25..I found 40 x 40 wicks better on 400 and 40 x 25 is good for #500.
The wick sits at a slight slant so it does not bottom out as it's loose in the hole to allow air into the tank in addition to a through and through hole. I also cut off the bottom of the wick at an angle so even if it bottoms out the hole is exposed..
