A couple of weeks ago I charged up - and have been happily using - two of the MP tornado batteries that I purchased in the TECC sale. Great - better vaping immediately. However, this morning, I was using one, put it down for a minute or so, went to pick it up and immediately dropped it. It was burning and hissing. The attie was on fire! I first assumed that the attie had somehow faulted, but transferring it to another battery, it was okay. So I attached another attie to the suspect battery, and within seconds the same thing was happening. The button didn't appear to be stuck in, but the unit was not only smoking but a stench was coming out of it - burning metal smell. Okay - battery clearly gone on the blink, so put it aside. But.......... and here is the weird part ............. an hour or so later, using the other battery (that I had opened/used at the same time - two weeks ago), which had also been working fine, suddenly was doing the same as the earlier one! I couldn't believe it, bizarre coincidence? Thank heavens they were not in a bag or laid on a surface - which mine often are. Button didn't appear stuck on that one either. Any other ideas folks as to why both of these batts should suddenly start doing this?

That sounds like what happened to my Slim Jym, first one then another I thought it was buttons sticking in a non-obvious way ??? I do hope you've got alternatives handy {{{Hanow}}} scylla

Thanks Scylla - but didn't realise that you had had something similar. Yes, I do have more batts - but from the same packs! I bought two packs of 5 batts in the TECC sale - so am worried that the other 8 could also do the same. Wouldn't be so bad if they had done it immediately, but two weeks afterwards means that it could happen at any time. If Perps pops in: Perpy, can you recall how much the Riva batts were from Eastmall? I think I like those better. My original Riva batts lasted longer than my original Tornados, so maybe I shall stick to those.

Contact TW a.s.a.p and let them know about this.
I would feel worried too if it had happened to me.

It sounds like the batteries are shorting out for some reason. I don't want to alarm you but get them out of the house immediately - don't throw them in the bin though! Dispose of them outside, in sand or water. If they continue doing this, there is a risk that they will burst in to flames and set fire to anything flammable that's close to them. And contact the supplier asap... Sean

I'm going to give Hanow a ring Sean now you've said that.
Edit to say . . . just spoke to Hanow and she's removing the batteries from the house as I type, thank you Sean for the warning.

Sean - thanks hun for that info. I have filled a jam jar with water and stuck them in there - and outside. But what about the other 8??? Haven't tried them yet, and now don't feel safe in doing so. If they too are faulty, could they kick-start themselves Sean? Just spoke to Perps (thanks for ringing hunnie ) Have just told her how thankful I am that it happened at home. I was in school all day yesterday, with these batts in my bag. Doesn't bear thinking about what could have happened had they exploded there. Also, my two chargers are in the kitchen, and I usually leave the batts there overnight - so all charged up for the next day. > I wonder what TECC will say?

Hanow... it's a possibility with any battery hun - you may have just gotten a dodgy pair. I wouldn't worry unduly as I'm sure the risk is small but if you're not happy and you have a garage, put them in there on a hard, non-flammable surface, away from anything that burns and wait to see what TECC say. I completely agree with Sean. May now be talking nonsense but I think the battery that was shorting out could have also shorted out the atties you attached to it - hence why then attaching them to the other batteries caused the same problem? Please shout at me folks if that theory is wrong. A big hug for you (((Hanow))))

Perps - thanks for that link, but were those the ones you got for me - 1100's? Or were they standard 510's? Are they one and the same, with the 1100's being bigger? The ones I have are the same size as the original 510 ones that came with the Riva Kit. I don't find the Eastmall site the easiest to find my way around. :-[

It wouldn't do any harm to bin the atty and fit a new one. Sean

Hadn't thought of that Chrissie - but my physics was never that good! :-[ I can't recall now if I moved the first attie over to the second battery. I generally spend the day changing the batteries between the couple of good atties. The Tornado batteries don't hold much of a charge for too long, and constantly need recharging. Think I shall go back to the Rivas.

Chrissie, I seem to remember in the dim distant past a shorted atty infecting another battery ??? That would have been 901 Mini.
