Ay Up Everyone,
Following on from tonight's VTTV programme about the setting up of a Consumers Association, I thought it important that the ecig users of the UK realise the importance of naming their chosen recreational nicotine habit.
According to the WHO, nicotine is the problem as it is a drug. Whether the nicotine is taken in by smoking, vaping, aubergines or NRT; If we use nicotine, we are 'ill'.
To avoid all confusion, we need to hang onto the fact that we are recreational nicotine users and as far as the 'powers that be' are concerned, the only recognised recreational nicotine users are SMOKERS.
If we have quit smoking, by switching to vaping, in their eyes we have used ecigs as a NRT. I know it is daft, BUT that is politics for you.
So to 'play the game', we ARE smokers who have just changed our brand to a possibly healthier one
I hope that clears things up

I hadn't been a smoker for months before I started vaping.
Smoking is completely different to vaping The only similarity is nicotine. However, not all vapers intake nicotine. Some users vape 0% nicotine e-juice.

Good point, Hissie. But I'm a grateful smoker who's found a less harmful alternative and haven't kicked the nic scylla

As far as I'm concerned they can call me whatever they want to, as long as they keep their hands off of e-cigs.
To be politically correct though, I call it a "smoking alternative".

I too have tried to be careful to say that vaping is a smoking alternative. I have often wondered if we are hanging ourselves with our own nooses by saying "I quit smoking with..."

how do i classify myself?
as a (very recent) ex smoker.
I no longer smoke, I vape. I enjoy my e-cig as my smoking alternative, and I enjoy it more than smoking.
So am i a smoker?
Hell no, I'm an e-cig vaper!

Does this then mean that as you have stopped smoking and/or using tobacco that you are using NRT?
Rusty (playing devil's advocate in this thread btw)

I agree Bluecow,i am NOT a smoker.I gave up the evil weeds 8 months ago, and feel so much better for it.When i was a smoker i smelled like shit and felt like it to.I class myself as a vaper and reformed character, lol, ive even stopped my heavy binge drinking since starting to vape. Edit to say,who actually cares what others class you as??are we not all trying to achieve the same goal here?my aim is to eventually cut down on vaping and stop altogeather, when i am good and ready to.

The problem is, if we say that e-cigarettes helped us to quit smoking and that we are ex smokers, then they can classify it as a "drug/delivery device". It's all about the wording with those characters, so it's best if we just call it a smoking alternative and if we "admit" that we are still smokers.

I don't relate vaping & smoking at all to be honest. I also haven't replaced smoking analogs with my vaping accessories.
I do not intend using vaping as a way of quitting either. I have no intention of stopping vaping as I enjoy it & will even continue to vape high nicotine strengths aswell.
In fact, before I started vaping, I had completely quit analogs for quite a few months. I missed the feeling of the throat hit, & discovered the "electronic cigarette". This gave me what I needed without the obnoxious smell, taste & foul chemicals.
I don't feel that my metabolism has altered in anyway either. To me, it's like I've never smoked & have always vaped.

The whole thread is just to get people thinking. I am personally a smoker who vapes instead. The reason I say this is that I have a smokers attitude, I feel a greater affinity to people who smoke than people who never smoked or people who have really stopped smoking. Smokers are the life and soul of the party, they have a 'fun' factor that non-smokers haven't got and they have a healthy disrespect for authority So bu*g*r you all - I'm off for a Pint,,,,indoors Rusty

I like your style Rusty especially the blatant disregard bit.
