we all know what cigarettes do to our lungs. are there any known facts regarding ecigs or the juice. i understand its not smoke and that vapor is totally different,im just wondering really if inhaling juice is doing me any harm. as much the reason im asking is so that when some smart ass tells me its the same as smoking i have some facts other than it doesnt contain 4000 dodgy chemicals. ragjoy.............

I'd like to know that too! Guess there's some comfort in the fact that the patches & gum contain nicotine too - & they're dished out like smarties in some areas! (With the medics approval) What about the stuff that makes the smoke? (Is it VG & another name - can't remember) - Is that harmless when inhaled? Hope someone knows?

No one really knows for certain as there have been no long-term studies but as I understand it, nicotine shouldn't be inhaled by anyone with circulatory or hypertension problems or if pregnant. However, the same is the case with ordinary cigarettes. I've also read that vaping may cause upper respiratory irritation in some people; however, I've just come through a really nasty, chesty cold and have recovered quicker and suffered less discomfort than ever before. www.ehow.com/about_5499611_danger-inhaling-propylene-glycol.htmlMy personal opinion is that there's more danger in inhaling the air on a London Transport Omnibus than ever there is in PG. When some e-ciggers were gathering info to defend e-cigs against the FDA (as usual I can't remember exactly) they did find one "scientific" paper where people with a chest infection were put in a room and Propylene Glycol (that's the name you're trying to think of, Magic) was sprayed into the air... and they were cured E-cig juices do NOT contain the 4000-odd poisons that tobacco cigarettes do. A New Zealand researcher (highly respected) pubished a paper which concluded "no harm done". Those are things that stick in my fuzzy mind after all the reading I've done over the past 15 months My night-time cough stopped within a couple of days of starting on e-cigs. I have other health problems so I haven't recovered fitness as much as others have. scylla

Anyone been to a concert where they have fog machines? If so, the vapour from a fog machine is produced in the same way as it is in e-cigs - apart from not containing any nicotine of course.
Raggy, the "buzzy feeling" does sound like you may be ODing on nicotine.

@scylla: Did you start to cough as soon as you lay down in bed? That's how it was with me. I couldn't even laugh without coughing! My chest is now clear even though I've had a really nasty 'chest cold.' In the past such colds have led to a long-lasting chest infection that has taken weeks to clear up (I never go to the doctor with such infections because, as a smoker, I feel anything related to the respiratory system is my own doing and I'm allergic to most antibiotics anyway).PG has been used in inhalers for asthma for donkey's years and is an 'airway expander.' This is one reason my rabidly anti-smoking, asthmatic daughter outlaw has no objection to my vaping in her house. The anti-EN-i brigade use the fact PG is an ingredient in anti-freeze as a scaremongering tactic as they know everyone has heard of that and it does sound very dodgy! They fail to mention, even if they've bothered to check, all the other uses for the product. *see link in my previous post* For reasons best known to themselves, they seem to think it doesn't really matter if 'vapers' revert to smoking tobacco because they're led to believe PG and liquid nicotine are 'just as bad for them.' The 'antis' would be better turning their attention to obtaining a complete ban on the burning of tobacco that they know for certain can kill; they know, however, that they would likely be on a hiding to nothing. I've even read EN-i (e-cig) units described as "plastic" devices! Do these people ever bother to check the subjects they are so hell-bent on opposing? Fox

This is a very interesting thread... You may have read on here that i had been experiencing slight shortness of breath a few days ago and had stopped vaping... well, i've still got it, the virus i had has gone, altho i still don't feel 100% yet, but i've still got this feeling of congestion in my lungs, and had been thinking of buying a VG juice, to see if that improved things, but Foxy's comments about PG having been an ingredient in inhalers for so long has made me think again... I remember the first couple of weeks of intermittent vaping were fine, and as far as i can remember, the first day or so of exclusive vaping were ok too... so....could it maybe be the VG thats actually causing the problem? cos it was a week or 2 before i bought some and started cutting the juices with it... Im at a loss here, cos i do enjoy vaping and i need to get off cigs, one way or another.... I've been reading and reading...and not coming up with an answer... I might add that when i smoke an analogue, it makes me feel worse, but never having had this before unless i actually had a chest infection which followed on from a bad cold, im not sure what has caused this and it's getting me down

That link by Foxy is SO interesting -thanks - gives me some answers for those that mock moi (Am rising above it all!! ) Lilac, I cough too with e cigs &, like you, badly need to at least cut down on cigarrettes. Replacing them eventually totally would be fab. Do you find any difference between this PG & VG thingy?

I have also read pg based liquid should be avoided if you have kidney problems.
They never mention this in any of the instructions which is strange.
So far I have not suffered any bad effects from vaping though if you are used to lower nic content liquid you can experience a buzz if you go up to a higher juice.
ragjoy If as you say you are prone to getting a buzz when you vape heavily - buy some lower nic liquid and keep it for your chain vaping sessions.

@scylla: Did you start to cough as soon as you lay down in bed? No, because I lie down on my side. But during sleep I turn onto my back and that's when the coughing started. I think my trachea is even more damaged than my lungs, and it was my naso-pharynx that almost killed me when I had a cold, I lived in fear of getting a cold - still do, but to a lesser extent because I know a cold will not be so long-lived and severe. scylla

I have, Chrissie, but they're 24mg, which i feel is a bit strong for me... im gonna order a small bottle of low mg PG and use that for a few days to see if there's any improvement... Raggie, i'm not coughing, its just this feeling of constantly having to take a deep breath to fill my lungs and discomfort in my lungs when i do... something else, if i dont actually inhale, but just hold the vapour in my mouth, it might help, still need my nicotine after all
