I wonder if the differences found in formaldehyde was due to the PG/VG ratio. Would be interesting to know more about the e-cigs and juice they used in the study.

It appears that the main risk associated with vaping is the potential inhalation of formaldehyde. Formaldehyde may result from the heating of propylene glycol or the oxidation or hydrolysis of glycerin. Of interest, the levels of formaldehyde among the 12 brands of electronic cigarettes ranged from just 3.2 micrograms per 150 puffs (about the same as a nicotine inhaler) to 56.1 micrograms per 150 puffs.

The other health concern related to e-cigarette use is the risks associated with long-term inhalation of propylene glycol. If an excipient can be found which allows vaporization of nicotine but avoids propylene glycol and limits the formation of carbonyl compounds such as formaldehyde, it will be a huge advance and may lead to the development of an electronic cigarette product that is not merely safer than smoking, but is essentially safe as well (comparable to a medicinal nicotine product)

Yeah I really would like to see a copy of the full study, although most of the terminology would most likely go over my head.

Unless I do die from it, then I think I'll probably stop

Was just discussing on UKV that also higher voltage may have something to do with the variation in Formaldehyde production.

hopefully more details of the study will surface, it's available in full but you have to pay for it.
