Hi Everyone,
Just mixed 40ml vodka with Boots glycerin 200ml.
Been vaping with a menthol mix, the throat hit is way too strong for me.(its not my recipe, as i've previously used this before)
Should I dilute the glycerin even further,to reduce the throat hit? - would distilled water do the job?
Cheers
Mike

I dilute my VG with DIW at 10%, so I'd add more glycerin (another 200ml for 10%) if I were you and see how you get on. DIW does indeed do the job, but I don't think further dilution is going to do you too many favours, might make the juice too thin

Where do you get your DIW from? Cheers Mike

Halfords or any other good car accessories shop will sell DIW, usually £1 + pennies for 1L

I don't use de-ionised (or distilled) water myself, but if you do there is a case for getting food grade. The Halford's stuff is chemically the same but not guaranteed to be bacteria free. Food grade is still very cheap. I put 10% vodka in the VG, like Jen so I'd add about 250ml of glycerine to your 200/50 mix. That is a hell of a lot of VG so I guess in practice you'll separate your mix into e.g. two halves, add 125ml to one of them and see how it goes. Next time obviously use water for a lower throat hit, but also maybe make a small quantity and try it before doing a big batch.

So, I buy another 200ml VG from Boots- then pour the 250 ml mix of vg & vodka into a large jug, then add 125ml of VG into the same jug. Then decant the 375ml into a couple of bottles? Cheers Mike

No Mike - you have twice as much alcohol in your mix as you want, so to fix it you need to have equal quantities of your mix and glycerine.
So, put half (125ml) of your mix in the jug, and add 125ml of glycerine.
Or, put 10ml of it in a bottle, add 10ml of glycerine, and see how it works.

Cheers mate Not to my knowledge, but it is worth asking in your local chemist (but if it is Boots, don't tell them what it is really for - if asked say it is for diluting food flavouring or something).

Something I keep meaning to ask, and this thread has reminded me ... Does the quality of vodka matter?

Vodka adds throat hit and at over 5% its very fierce. If you use Halfords deionised water its best to boil it first. To reduce the fierceness of the throat hit you need to get the final content below 5%... VG starts to get very watery if its total aqueous and/or vodka content is above 20%. Hope this helps.

I think my problem stems from using 'Absolut' Vodka

Its the alcohol that creates the throat hit - vodka is used because of its purity / lack of sugars - Americans use pure grain alcohol. The higher the proof, the more potential for TH.
