I think mixing might be something that I'd look at further down the line!! What about juice strength? Is there any rule of thumb when it comes to this? Probably best for now! Strength - nope, no rule of thumb, you kinda have to suck it and see, pardon my French For a newbie, I'd recommend getting 3 or 4 juices of different strengths, say from 12 - 24mg, and see what suits you. I vape @ 10mg, but I chain vape.

nfollows1982, research research research, spend plenty of time on here reading up on mixing and equipment and it will save you ££££s as well as the health benefits but beware of "shineyitus" "Fasttechitus" and other bankbalance depleting viruses, you can easily get addicted to spending on gadgets.
i'd reccommend you start off trying the pre-made juice before dipping into the world of mixing your own, loads of vendors and if you don't mind waiting some great bargains to be had from overseas. that way you can establish the types of flavouring you prefer (surprising how many people go off the tobacco flavours and vape fruit and dessert flavours).
just as an example of costs i used to smoke approx 20 rollups per day (if bought legally 75gm was around £22 a week) i mix my own and it costs on average £1.50 a week (though where the saved money has gone is beyond me, probably on the wifeys ever increasing wardrobe and shoe collection!)

I've tried one before, I honestly couldn't tell you which one, but it was a cig lookalike with pre-filled cartridges. I think I bought it mainly as the end lit up and it looked like the real thing! I understand that vaping with the proper kit is totally different but it wasn't a great experience and that's why I am apprehensive about taking the plunge again. I was just the same! I bought one of the cig looking elites last year. Trying to take a drag nearly made my eyes pop out, just useless. Have since learne d to do with the battery volt. Had an Intro Viva starter kit in the house for 6 weeks before I used it. Told hubby would try it tomorrow, and so on. Got going with it last Tuesday and haven't looked back. I ordered Gold (B&H) flavour, and menthol, so to me it replicates my ciggy choices, taste wise. I in a week have just spent another £45 on vaping stuff. Have heard so many people say that www.vapeescape.co.uk/Vaping-Spares/Batteries--Passthroughs/Vision-Spinner-1300.html, and this www.vapeescape.co.uk/Vaping-Spares/Clearomisers/EVOD-BC-Clearomiser.html, are brilliant. Not that my viva wasnt good, just simply that I needed a spare battery anyway. That will be it for me, spend wise now, so now I have my new kit I just need to re place the atty heads at £1 a week and I seem to be using 2mls of liquid a day, which is 86p worth. So I am thinking it will cost me just under a tenner a week, instead of £63 on cigs. I found a nip on Wednesday and was shaking with excitement to smoke it. Best thing I ever did as it seemed no different than my ciggy. The usual....this is good but a real ciggy would be better....are gone, due to finding the nip/docker. Vaping is the best thing I have ever done, seriously, never in a million years ever dreamed I would no longer crave an actual ciggy, that's after 30 years of smoking.

Not really, it's very dependent on the person, we usually recommend about 18mg strength to start, which can easily be adjusted up or down by adding a higher or lower nicotine strength juice.

Evening all. I've got another question which I've thought of.....
Is there a general rule of thumb that says X puffs on the vape = 1 normal cig? Say if we are using 18mg as the example?
Just interested to know if it still takes the same amount of time to get the fix as smoking a rollie or if you get the fix in 1 or 2 puffs on the vape?
Thanks guys. Help has been great so far!!

depends on the nicotine strength mate, 36mg would probably give me all the nic I want in 2 or 3 puffs..24mg I usually have about 5 - 10 puffs before I put it down

Hi nfollows1982, you vape in a completely different way than smoking but i'm not the right person to describe this to you as i'm only 5 weeks in myself & probably still not got the technique right, but I think i'm right in saying that you vape until you feel satisfied & if your juice is the correct strength you will not get those dreaded cravings & me personally I don't eat anymore than I did when smoking, no loss of concentration, no bad temper in fact no withdrawal symptoms whatsoever, also I have been out drinking loads of times & not been tempted. I was smoking approx 15 Regal daily & i'm on 18mg, I only vape approx. 1.6 ml daily this is a full clearomiser, hope this helps but someone else will be along soon with more knowledge

So I guess it's all down to the individual then? How many puffs you need just comes from how many you feel you need before you feel satisfied?
The one thing my wife has asked is about vaping in the house.....what exactly to you exhale? Is there anything harmful in it and what about the smell?
I've read that the fruit versions smell of fruit but do the tobacco flavours make the house smell like an ashtray?

One of the many nice things about vaping is you can just put it down when you're satisfied 2 puffs or 20 puffs it's up to you. When I was a smoker I would often feel like I'd had enough when I was only half way through a ciggy, but would continue to finish it off just because it was there and didn't want to waste it.

nfollows1982... with total respect, don't try to over analyse it all. You'll never know until you try it. The Riva or eGo kits are excellent kits, I started with the eGo one, have since got a couple of Spinners (bigger battery) and that has seen me through nearly 1 year with NO problems at all, and NO cravings whatsoever. Your biggest problem will be finding an all day juice, so don't go mad at first, try some small samplers... then go mad! I was a 20-30 day smoker, but in less than a year can show a NET saving of nearly £2k. So, you're not risking anything, apart from your health if you don't try it, and if (very unlikely) it's not for you then just sell your kit on the 'classifieds' here on this forum. The very best of luck... and as Nike would say... Just Do It!
