After my heart attack the GP upped the anti with my stop smoking regime and I was prescribed Zyban. It worked, and while I was on them, I didn't smoke. However it wasn't long into the time that I finished the course when I started again.
Then I had a course of Champix and that worked too. That is when I stopped for about 10 months, only to start again.
The last and most successful attempt was with Nicorette Chewing gum that I wasn't prescribed but just bought myself. That mixed with ordinary chewing gum kept me smoke free for 18 months.
None of the above or anything I had had on any previous stop smoking attempt, had any side effects on me what so ever. But everybody is different and different drugs will affect people differently.
But the one thing that remains the same. Once you finish the course of whatever anti smoking product you are trying, if you have used nicotine for any length of time, your body and your mind will have a certain dependency on that substance. I continued to carry some Nicorette around with me for almost a year after I had stopped, but that was not long enough because when I had to face a really bad situation, ofcourse I didn't have the dammed stuff with me. But, as there always is, there was a fag shop just around the corner!

GP's will adopt NICE guidelines when it either suits them and the PCT or cant get away with not doing so!

varenicline blocks nicotine from acting on the nicotinic receptors. This prevents any nicotine inhaled in tobacco smoke from having a rewarding and enjoyable effect She quoted this to me, yet she doesn't know how the inhalator works. It messes with your brain chemistry and they wonder why it causes issues in a lot of users...

I'm totally disgusted with what this stupid woman was saying to you, she deserves to be kicked out/struck off! I'd be happy to have a few words with her about her stupid inhalator!

She didn't know how the inhalator works.
I can sum it up very simply - it doesn't !
When I had one it irritated the hell out of my throat and made my ever present nausea worse. I still wanted a cigarette every two minutes as well.

sammy13 you have done amazingly well. I have done amazingly well I went from smoking between 15-20 a day 5 months and 3 days ago to zero nicotine vaping (nearly 3 months with zero nic) I never thought I would have been able to do it I tried everything champix worked for a while. All other ways I put on a few stone after giving up. Vaping I have lost weight while doing it. This has got to be another plus for vaping. I dont see any negatives at all. I have directly converted 11 people. Indirectly probably 100's

I've just ordered some Nicorette Chewing gum for the long haul flight we are about to do. I explained to the doctors I wanted something to help with the cravings for a 10 hr -ish flight and they prescribed the 2mg mint flavored Nicorette Chewing gum no problem. All in all we find our own ways of dealing with the cravings but staying stinky free is the ultimate goal, which ever way go decide 'good luck'. Vaping has helped me and I too was put on record as a none smoker when we described vaping. So it seems to vary from one GP to another. Keep trying all the best Beatnik.

I am an alcoholic. I have not had a drink of alcohol for over 25 years. I have studied alcoholism, both from my own perspective and from other peoples and so I reckon I know a fair bit about the subject.
A few years ago I attended a lecture given by some professionals on the subject of alcohol counselling and what I was told there was a load of total bullsh*t.
I came away thinking, Gawd help anyone who goes to these people for help. People with an alcohol addiction are usually in serious trouble by the time they seek help from anybody, especially from those who class themselves as professionals.
So called professionals can only tell you what has been told to them and so some of their "information" could have been passed down from pre Roman times. If you want the real facts, then listen to the people who have "walked the walk" as they are the ONLY ones who are in a position to "talk the talk".

Firstly well done on everything you have achieved in life. I agree totally the only people who can advise is those who have been through it.

your doctor is a complete waste of space, tell him/her that vaping has stopped you using the demon stinkies, and if he/she gives you shit tell them to go f--k spiders.
My doctor is very supportive and very interested in vaping, she has seen my shiny's and has actually said that she will advise others that vaping is the way forward. she is a smoker and I have pointed her towards fasttech and aaec, quite rightly she will state that noone knows what the long term may bring but vaping has to be better than smoking and as we all know nrt doesn't work. Hang on in there and don't let a stupid opinionated tw-t stop you from vaping

I saw the nurse at the local smoking cessation clinic a few months into my Vaping Journey. She was very careful to let me know that she could "Not OFFICIALLY advise me to Vape" but she put the emphasis on the "Officially" bit. Good people are around sometimes!

Whilst Vaping is "old hat" to us, the Health Professionals have had no official directive on Vaping and so cannot either promote or condemn it. They may have personal opinions ofcourse, but until told one way or another, some will say it is okay and some will not. So, at the moment anyway, it is up to the individual whether vaping is good or bad. For me it is good and I am better off in every facet of my life because of it. My smoking friends agree while my non smoking friends reckon I am still smoking. (albeit, very cheaply ).

My smoking friends agree while my non smoking friends reckon I am still smoking. (albeit, very cheaply ). You are so right, I nipped to my local surgery to ask could I purchase a needle, to use to fill my evod with juice. I was just lucky that the bllod nurse was at reception at the time. Come with me she said, I did. Showed her my PV, she smiled and admitted to have never seeing one before (I live out in the sticks and am likely the only vaper in the village) she told me anything that keeps you off cigs and popped 5 needles in my hand, she was made up for me. Just shows the difference. I too wonder if the authour Allen Carr was onto something? He mentions, in detail in book 2 Easyway, that smokers are in a panic that others are jumping off the sinking ship, and that smokers are deep down secretly glad that people revert back, as it doesn't make them feel as silly. So smoksrs who still think we smoke may feel this way? My smoking circle is zero, only my dad left and he has purchased his kit on Monday, so I have not yet had the you are still smoking though really look/speech..yet..lol Sammy, so glad you are happy now. My dad is rolling in cash, seriously, yet never can find anything to be happy about. What you said I could totally relate to. Hubby and I on the other hand have enough to cover next months bills in a crisis and that's it. But gawd we are happy, laugh every day, laugh when we probably shouldn't. !..lol You are so right, health and friends (am married to my bezt friend) are the most important thing ever. So glad you are happy too xx

That nurse is a Stupid ignorant woman!!!!! Grrrrr Well me and a colleague at work coincidentally had decided to stop smoking completely around the same time, me with vaping and her going to the non smoking clinic across the road from where we work. She lasted 2 weeks before she was back on the fags, I'm 14 weeks in and never touched one since my kit arrived! My colleague felt really ill during those 2 weeks on NRT and was off work for most of it. I was happily working away, feeling healthier every day
