Blownupdolly - I'm soooooo glad she's back. Haven't posted 'till now, as I don't think I'd've helped much. I'd have only recounted the time, about 15 years ago, Sooty-Whiteness disappeared for 3 1/2 weeks, and returned one night, stick-thin - we thought he's been shut in someone's shed/garage whilst they'd been on holiday. Every day & night the surrounding streets were walked, calling & whistling for him to no avail. More recently, Willow seems to do one between every month and six weeks. She's away for 2-7 days, and generally returns about 2 AM, announcing her arrival as she climbs the stairs, wnting to be fed Every time, we get that 'heavy feeling' in our stomachs, but so far, she's not failed to return. Still, glad she's back safe and sound. (Bet Mr Dolly is as well - he can hide in his Man Shed rather than tramping the streets) Thanks Fred Can't put Mr Dolly in the shed today. He's been a good boy. Even making me my fave dinner. Beef chilli nachos

I can tell you now (did nt think it appropriate whilst you were still worried) I found the kitten (lucky) when i was taking my dog for a walk some years back(had been abandoned, full of worms and just a mess) anyways got him all sorted out at the vet and he moved right in. After we moved he got out one night and just never came home (i was working away from home on an island in the north west of scotland at the time so it was horrible knowing i could nt go searching for him.) Never got him back and that was 8 years ago now and even now when driving through that area of edinburgh i still look for him. Yep they get under your skin thats for sure and im glad you had a happy ending . Oh no!! That's such a shame Rich. I don't know what's worse. The not knowing what happened or finding out a very unhappy truth.

Thanks again everyone. It seems family life is totally back to normal. I bought some cooked chicken as a treat for Poppet as she obviously hasn't eaten for days. The usual bunfight ensued with her ginger brother George trying to bully her out of the way to get the lions share. He got kicked out and I hand fed her with it. Thought she was going to rip my hand off!

My eldest cat takes off-ski turns and beggers off for three days at at time but always comes back looking well-fed and content. He's found a neighbour to sucker for food. Not that he doesn't get fed well here, but it's his way of seeking variety. His nose was really put out of joint with the arrival of two interloping dumped kittens late last year and it's been some time since he settled things with them. The arrival of the latest kittens seems to have pissed him off more, though; he's always having a wee slap at one or two when he thinks I'm not looking, the crafty little sod. Pure jealousy. He's still doing his wandering off and returning though; that's not changed.

Poppets brother George really is a fat glutton when it comes to food and bullies all the others to get everyone's share. We have to get rid of him to feed the others. I only realised last night I don't have any grown up pics of Poppet to post on here, but this is one when she was a bubby. She is the black and white one. The pure black kitten now lives with my daughter.

Great news Blownupdolly I went round to my youngest son's last night, where I do the cat sitting, for a boy's night in, and all the available doors & windows were open (it was a humid night) and his three cats were roaming freely... I nearly had a heart attack... and was constantly on the lookout. Anyway, we had a takeaway and a few drinks, and sure enough, getting near bedtime, the youngest was still missing, so he opened the cat flap and did a few calls outside. In she trotted, bold as brass, but at the same time the eldest buggered off outside! Ten minutes later and he was back also, so all was well... but I've gone off the idea of a pet, I couldn't stand the stress!
