Halloween is near, do you keep your blinds/curtains shut with lights off and pretend you ain't in or give gifts of joy? I myself every year buy 3-4 buckets of sweets and do the full kit with scary stuff outside (not over the top mind you) Just love watching the little ones gleaming faces of smiles, well worth the money. Hate it when over 16's knock though, i tell them to sod off

Haven't had any the last few years... probably because I gave them sweets instead of money... so I'm probably blacklisted with the local kids.

Definetly open love seeing the kiddies enjoying themselves. had a friend though was getting pestered by Teenagers so their "treats" consisted of a large chunk of Dark laxative Chocolate.. Not saying that was right, but I bet they won't be around again..

I don't mind the kids coming round, I haven't had too many teenagers in recent years but they get a pitiful look (although I usually give em something if they've at least dressed up).
Don't EVER let the kids help themselves or you'll have to go out to sainsburys to restock in no time!

Two of my grandchildren live in the village of Canewdon, which is supposed to be the most haunted place in the UK and has a long history of witchcraft. See link www.essexghosthunters.co.uk/places/canewdon-church/So, Halloween is a bit of a big event up there. This means me and Mr Dolly are never at home that night. We are up there on top of the hill with all the kids and my daughter has a bit of a party for kids and adults. In fact, nanny usually gets a fair few sweeties to take home, but only the ones the kids don't like

I told my neighbour to do a secret knock as she has a 6 year old and being the kind person I am I will put a couple of pound in the collecting tub. I always get him a selection box every year for xmas so the next door neighbour will think I am ace.
Anyone else knocks on Halloween I will hide behind the settee and hold my breath and play statues until they have gone.
Normally opening the door round here is like playing Russian roulette.

I think the kids round here must be from a different planet. The young kids come round, always with an adult guardian who stays well back. They only come to houses with pumpkins (but as I don't normally do pumpkin I draw a sign for my window saying they are welcome.
They have all made an effort to dress up, and when we pass the bowl of sweets to them they ALWAYS only take one, even when I have clearly said take a few! Sometimes I say you can take a few more if you want, some tentatively (after a look to the adults to check it is ok) take another ONE! And some say no thank you. Then they all say thanks and the parents give you a smile, and they are off looking for the next house!
Later in the evening we get some groups of teenagers round, BUT they are young teenagers, all dressed up and just as polite as the youngsters.
Honestly it is like some sort of portal opens up here to a different dimension - it is Halloween after all.
Sometimes when we have got fed up of answering the door, want to watch a program or have run out of sweets, we take the sign down and then we see people walking past, but they don't stop, and the first year when I just assumed we would get knocked for, I didn't do a sign and then wondered why no-one knocked, it was only after making the sign half way through that people started coming.
I like to answer the door with a rat on my shoulder, great opportunity for a bit of ratty PR!!!

We decorate the house and get loads of sweets, if I'm well enough I bake little halloween cakes too and wrap them so they can take them home. We live in a rural town and seems we have kids like Ratfinkz , always polite, always with either a parent or older sibling who stay back, I always tell the kids to take an extra sweet for them to say thank you for looking after them in the dark
