I can understand your disapointment with shoddy clones, but there will always be folks who just can't stretch to the price of genuine items sadly.

I think it's the same argument as high end designer clothes vs budget labels.
you can buy a shirt for £200 which will look great, fit well, it'll be comfortable and it will last a long time, or you can buy the knock off for £20 which will look reasonable provided you don't look too closely, will fit reasonably well and will last a reasonably amount of time for the £20 you spent on it.
Or you can buy a pretty good shirt without the famous label that will look good, fit well and will last for ages for about the same price as the knock off.
Like it or not vaping follows the same trends.  Mods with ships engraved, or angels engraved.  Attys with a mythical sea monster engraved, the list goes on.
Using the Kraken as an example the choices are : 
spend £120 on an atomiser that will look amazing, last for ages and will very likely work straight out of the box
spend £20 on the clone which will look much the same, might last for ages and if your lucky and don't get one of the batch with the dead short in the center pin it will work out of the box 
Here's the last choice and for me it might be the best one.  Buy an AGA t-2 for £20.  It won't look like a kraken, but it will look nice.  It will last for ages unless mistreated.  And it will work as advertised straight out of the box.

as I said before I am not anti clone at all but I rally don't agree that people buy clones because they can't afford the real deal.  In most cases it's not the technology of the device that is being sought after, it's the look and image of the thing.

Please, don't buy electronics (batteries/chargers) cheap from the toy manufacturers in the far east. False economy, those things can kill you. Juice, well, get into mixing your own! Then you have 100% control over quality.

We hear so many anti reports about people blowing batteries up (stupidity, like you'd put a car battery on the mains... DD NOT DO IT) or poisoning their cat (PUT THE JUICE IN A SAFE BOX IDIOT)

Us vapers need to make sure we're safe. And those we love. And those too thick to know (e.g. cats).

Doesn't really work with products that don't have proper quality control. One batch might be amazing and the next batch can be a steaming brown lump

Well in that case, you get the, pay cheap pay twice etc, If bought from FT nobody lost a fortune, and as said it only needs a hole drilling to make it acceptable, to that particular user, others may find it perfectly adequate, hardly a massive issue.

Buy cheap buy twice, but take your choice, I wouldn't condemn it or condone it; each to their own. We all have a budget at the end of the day. Originals are better by a country mile. Just my opinion.

Yes Bluefish I could have drilled out the air hole and filed the air channels deeper and perhaps super glued the PMMA inner tank so that it provided an air tight seal and perhaps the super rough threading might have worn smooth after a few months and the Squape only cost about £13 but why should I be expected to do this?
If this was a Kanger Aerotank that I had bought from, say, Ash or Jason for the same sort of money would you still expect me to have to do this?
And you are right, it is not a massive issue but it is the issue that has led me to make a personal decision to buy an occasional genuine item from now on rather than a lot of clones.
As I emphasised in the first sentence of this thread this is not a clones versus genuine argument but my personal choice. I still have several clone mods and atties (including a different make of the Squape which performs perfectly) and I use them daily ... all I am saying here is that I have decided not to buy clones in the future as what you get is far too hit and miss for my liking.

Depends upon the clone I'd say @yinyang . . . the GG ones from Vapor Freak etc have been excellent and had they been available when I'd bought the originals, I wouldn't have bothered with the hassle and extra cost.

Chose your clone wisely maybe? But they'll always be a market as we live in a bargain/discounted world . . . who doesn't love one, I know I do.
