Hi again. Thanks so much for all the help and encouragement. I had one cigar left in a tin so smoked that yesterday evening, so 2 cigars in 2 days so far! Mind you I do have quite a few full tins stashed away - I'm just going to leave them there for now and see how I go.
You are right Jemima - a lot of the time I haven't even thought about smoking. I enjoyed vaping from my very first go and although of course it is not the same as smoking I find it a pleasurable alternative. It is difficult to describe it - the best I can do is that it is kind of long and mellow instead of short and sharp.
Thanks to Disco Des for the very practical advice. I think I am going to try the cartomiser approach too as it is a bit of a pain keep having to top up the cartridges. I have seen a lot of recommendations for the Boge ones - would they be good to start with?
So far I have tried two cigar flavours, flue cured and ry4 and to be honest I don't find all that much difference - although the ry4 tasted a bit more of caramel to me. I guess my taste buds will improve with time!

Hey Dave RY4 is a tobacco flavour but it's a hint of caramel and vanilla Tobacco flavour rather than a cigar type (still one of my favourites though) Boge cartos are a great start - best bet on the cigars when you are out of them altogether your brain tells you automatically you're out and you need to get more - at least mine did lol

Brilliant news Dave I like the Boge cartos, lots of folks are saying the Kanger ones are even better but not tried them yet.

Well just been over to vapescape who seemed to have a good deal and ordered my Boge cartomisers plus a couple of drip tips. I read somewhere that it was a good idea to use these with cartomisers plus I can have a go at using them directly with the atomiser - is this called dripping? - still getting used to the terminology! Blimey there are a big variety of drip tips! so went mad and bought two - a round one and a whistle tip so I can see which I prefer. Plus I thought it would be handy to have a spare so someone else could have a try. I fear I may be getting near my limit of exclamation marks for the day, so I hope the punctuation police don't notice

Lol Dave . . . yes it's called dripping, when you replace your cartridge with a drip tip, then drip roughly 3 drops down on to the bridge of your atomiser . . . with your cartomiser, remove the bung end, insert the drip tip and you're good to go, once you've filled your carto of course.

I have to add that I also find the Kangers very nice and also the mega xl dual coil carto's ( hold 5ml so last me all day at work and more ) I did use tanks for a while but the flavour strips and the new carto's are much better. Welcome to the forum Dave Always remember with vaping you can never have too many spares

Warlord I think you are dead right - I am hanging on to the cigars for now. Storm, funny you should say that. Panic stations last night when my first battery ran out and I couldn't get the second one going - immediately ordered a third battery and atomiser! Fortunately I remembered some stuff from trying's thread and all the battery problems she had, so I poked the battery connection with a paper clip to make it stick up more which worked for about two vapes. Then I changed the atomiser and this kept me going for half an hour before it packed up again, but by then it was bedtime so just made it. By this morning, both batteries had had a good charge. Even though the second one showed green immediately I still charged it just in case. Decided to have another go with battery 2 before concluding that it was faulty. Fiddled as before, but no go, then loosened the atomiser slightly and bingo - been going fine now for several hours. So thanks to you all, trying's pain has been my gain - not much consolation for trying though I guess!

Don't tighten anything too tight Dave, that's an expensive mistake I made years ago

The second Riva battery ran out last night after a day so back to the first one which lasted more than 2 days and seems to have a bit more oomph. They are both 1100mah 3.7 v batteries - is this sort of variation normal? Anyway, just been e-mailed that my third battery is on its way. I'm thinking I ought to get another USB charger as well. Are they all like the one I have and about 6 inches long, or can you get longer ones? Thanks again for all the support.

Hi Dave - a belated 'Hello' from darkest Cheshire I started with Riva, then switched to EgoT batteries, but have since bitten the bullet and invested in a ProVari - it looks expensive; but for what you get for your money it isn't really. That's if you can cope with looking like you're sucking on a posh screwdriver! If you want to stick with a Riva/Ego format but you are getting that big throat hit can I suggest you try something like a CE3; something I found calmed the throat hit down a bit.
