The vendor is wrong, you cannot prevent the centre pin coming into contact with juice and that juice contacting the wick. Also if it's a UK vendor you can reject it under the distance selling regulations. It's probably just a first attempt to fob you off, stick to your guns Mrsmac and good luck.

Update: was contacted by vendor by email with a respinse from the manufacturer who claims in response to my concerns: 1) The copper center pin is used to contact with the base for stronger conductivity, not e-juice, and it should not make contact with e-juice. After coiled up the wire and silica, it should be lifted up from the base, or else it will cause a short-circuit. 2) We had an client oem a bunch of kayfun totally made of copper, but never heard of that secure issue. 3) After test, all parts are within safe levels.
Regarding the screw and base problem, our kayfun is 1:1 clone, and that's how the kayfun was designed. As long as the "coiled up" base could be covered by the chimney, it could work. Could you please have it try and test first and see if there is the functioning problem? As for our test, it works perfect.I am just soooo angry right now! This email is very telling. I am guessing this email was sent to you from the vendor. Im also guessing that this was what the Chinese manufacturer sent the vendor after the vendor complained to them about what he had got. Obviously they don't understand what the problem is, instead they talk of the copper contact pin and don't follow what the actual problem is. You shouldn't have been sent this from the vendor, he has the pictures and if he read this email he would see that its not relating to the problem you have.
I did like this bit. '' 2) We had an client oem a bunch of kayfun totally made of copper, but never heard of that secure issue.'' CLIENT OEM = Bunch of parts sourced from different places and thrown together to produce something cheap and nasty.
He obviously has a problem with these as I don't think he would have gone to the trouble of emailing the manufacturer and complaining about just your Kayfun.
His problem with the manufacturer should not be your problem. He can see its all over the place and should refund you.
I hate to have to email vendors with a problem relating to what I have received. I hate it even more when the vendor responds with an email that suggests its you and not their product.
We are the people who keep them in business and should be treated with a bit more respect. We are not idiots (mostly) and can see when something is not right.

I agree and that is why initially i didnt want to name who it was. i am hopeful that it will get sorted, just waiting for OH to come home so i can phone. Just makes me concerned for any possible future dealings as they may see me as making trouble and more likely than not, i cannot afford some of the prices of things like kanger products with other vendors. If we do manage to salvage this i will only buy genuine articles from them in future

can i ask if you have tried to vape with it and if so how does it preform? I wouldn't do that as they may refuse to take it back once it's been used. IIRC under distance selling regs you can return for a full refund (not your cost of sending it back) for any reason.

VapingBad is correct you don't need to wait for the vendor to say 'send it back', you can send it back for a full refund for any reason within 14 days ( I think its 14 days ) But you will not get the cost of postage refunded, and you will have to send it back using registered 'signed for' delivery (in case you need to show you have sent it, if they say they havnt received it).

But, I feel that as it clearly has at least two "manufacturing defects/faults" (plating has come off centre pin, centre pin insulator damaged) that they should stop messing you around and give you a full refund, refund the cost of sending it back, a sincere apology and maybe a gift voucher.

They should do. Lets see what happens now they have it and can see the problems.
