I'm without TV at the moment, waiting for a new aerial to be fitted. It's driving me mad!
So I check in with BBC on the internet, and their iPlayer is not playing since yesterday, so can't really catch up on anything, as if there's nothing going on!
What the hell would we do without electricity for a start, and all the gadgets and gizmos that we rely on for a normal life. And that is the question... what is a normal life... is it Facebooking, Twittering or texting, or speaking etc.
I'm as guilty as anyone... I'll text my sons etc, but do I really talk to them, visit them, really open up to them? Where has 'normal' life gone and what can we do about it?
Sorry it's a bit deep, but I would like your opinions.

Pain in the ass mooching round all the websites and catch up but between the main catch ups and netflix we are pretty much covered. We are thinking on talk talk tv as we can record stuff then. Normal life has gone. My 4 yr old son asked if i was downloading stuff today. He knows how to use my smartphone and purchase apps which is scary. He can navigate youtube himself and use the internet already. All before he even goes to school. That is where life has gone. Sent from my Galaxy Note 2

Hardly ever watch scheduled TV any more, once or twice a week probably. I often have an audio book on the go while surfing the net, I love books, but I'm dyslexic an it's a bit of a slog for me. I have a large music collection, which is another nice way to spend some time. And last but not least taking the dog for a cross country walk to a pub in another village.

I see plenty folks who cannot cope without TV even for just a short while!!!
In my job i sometimes take customers off supply for several hours & some of the comments......
'Can i just finish watching Jeremy Kyle / Homes Under The Hammer / Loose Women etc etc'
'My Son's at a crucial stage in a game on his X-box, can you wait'
These people know i'm coming, i have a timed appointment, i have actually walked away from jobs because some folk refuse to switch off.
My most used piece of advise to customers...... 'Catch it on +1'

Coleen can abuse me as much as she likes!

I'm not complaining though, i get paid wether i do the job or not, just means i get home on time for my Chips & Egg. Not quite sure what to make of your 'thing' for Coleen Nolan though.

With a teenager in the house, I rarely get a go on the remote control... can't say it bothers me much though, as there really isn't anything I want to watch. (I'd rather go on Youtube and watch a PBusardo video than most of what is on TV these days) I enjoyed the Wire, and Breaking Bad, but they were from download, don't even know if they were ever on TV here. Raffles, I'd love it if my dad would actually 'talk' to me... but he never does, he's properly old-school and never opened up in any way... (I'm 40 and can count the times he's hugged me on one hand!) But even so, I would love to know what he thinks about things, how he is feeling about things (never get very far if I initiate the conversation). If you miss that kind of interaction, I say go for it! Start out easy, but you might be surprised by the response. I think a lot of people wonder where 'real life' has gone, but don't do anything about it (too stuck to their gadgets I expect).

Satellite TV and 24 hr broadcasting ended conversation when I was growing up. Before that there was beggar all on unless you wanted to watch Shane for the 387th time, or loved torturing yourself with ceefax (oh that horrible music)

My little girl has severe autism she is verbal but not brilliant talking but getting better shes 9 mental age of 3-5 but put her on a PC and watch out world, she already has bought her own toys ( Disney cars) on eBay £160 worth after she watched me put my password in once. She's figured out how to build her own little world on roblox, knows how to use the sky box and Netflix etc . Ask her to pass you the pen of the table shell pass you something else. Unable to write using pen and paper but can tell you awhole story using office. She can draw etc on her tablet like a little pro bless her. To her the technology we have allows her to express herself and interact with a world that 20 years ago she would have severely struggled in.

igual please never let anyone tell you that your daughter has a mental age of 3-5. That is almost certainly not true. Her emotional capabilities and linguistic ability may be lower than the norm, but her mental age most assuredly isn't, as her exquisite use of technology indicates. I'll bet she has other abilities which match or exceed those of a similar age. As a teacher I have worked with countless kids on the autistic spectrum, and to this day I am still disturbed that people consider them having a lower mental age. Just ask her teachers about multiple intelligences and learning styles. Encourage her like you do right now. Well done to a good parent. Love and kind thoughts go out to you and your family.
