Supermarkets have been urged to keep daffodils away from fruit and vegetable aisles this spring - in case they are mistaken for food. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-31176748 ???

If people cannot read a label in a supermarket then they should only go shopping accompanied by a responsible person that can read. ????

Was on the news earlier, people mistaking the bulbs for onions, I do despair that our lives are becoming so controlled and managed we will no longer have the ability to think for ourselves in a generation or two

Cross contamination and allergens! Guess what I've been revising at work! That's what I thought at first, in which case fair enough... but the article says people are mistaking them for Chinese vegetables.

We used to eat daffs, just the heads, we have a dad that had us eat just about anything lol! Chittling, cockles, winkles, marrow stuffed with mince (blurgh!)... But, you really can't legislate for stupidity. Grr

Hmmm - Dafs... Anyone who's spent time picking Daffodils will know they're nasty stuff - horrid rashes from the stems and bulbs if you handle enough of them... Bulbs are pretty nasty things if you try and eat them as well (so I kind of get that bulbs shouldn't be stored next to, say, five different varieties of Onions)
I guess what it boils down to is that folks don't know enough to differentiate what's safe and what's not - so many of us live in urban areas we've little idea of what a potato plant looks like, let alone what poisonous vegetation is growing in the UK....
Mind you, I'd have thought it pretty safe to display Daffodil flowers next to Chrysanthemum flowers... So go figure.

What I worry about is the gateway effect. Kids start eating daffs because they're pretty and yellow. Before you know it they've graduated onto spanish red onions and then it's just a slippery slope to capsicums and chillies. Won't somebody protect our children?

I despair, really I do. FFS, please can we attempt to keep some sense of logic and commonsense in this country. If people really can't read that daffodil bulbs are not onions, and haven't got the nouse to realise that they aren't food, they shouldn't be trusted with a fork, let alone a car or a mobile phone!! What the hell are we coming to in this country, or indeed the Western world?

Years ago natural selection would have removed the stupid from the gene pool, now we protect them to breed more!
