But there are more and more nickel coil heads on the the market, so it is not just for rebuilders decoy, lairey will know, maydb you could post a list Claire. AFAIK it's the Nautilus, Aerotank and Subtank coils that are available so far, but am sure that there will be more as temp sensing mods become more commonplace

Nice big well on it, but I really rate the airflow underneath the coils in the Magma, flavour is really very good

So, if as you say pre heat isn't contributing it's all down to the correct temp?

So, if as you say pre heat isn't contributing it's all down to the correct temp? Yes, I think so. I really cant differentiate between the Kangxin or the IPV4 on vape quality, it`s very consistent flavourwise. I dont notice an issue with pre heat, because on the scope it is only about half a second till it gets to where it should be. I can see it being an issue with sub ohming and thicker kanthal wires but nickel seems to heat so quickly. EDIT .................. I dont have an Evolve mod, only used one for a day but I didn`t feel there was enough of a difference in the quality and flavour of the vape to make me want to get one.

Ok, so IPV4 set to 310 F and 20 J just ran my subtank dry and it hit the dry coil no liquid display on the mod and I didn't get a mouth full of burnt cotton So it works in a way, the quality of vape at 310 F compared to 460 F was just as good, still odd that the YiHI chips are 100 F different than the Evolv chips... I`m gonna do a test later with a temp sensor meter on the Kangxin at 450F and on the IPV4 and see where I get a match on the IPV4 with the Kangxin at 450F. My money is on about 300F Look forward to the results...

Not very scientific, the probe can move inside the coil, but a general idea at the moment is IPV4 142C but showing 311F Kangxin 148C but showing 450F So I am probably at 440F ish on the IPV4 -V- car147 Roscopecotrain

Some good posts both for and undecided on TC, not burning cotton was only one point I like about it, but the bonuses are being able to adjust the temp for whatever juice your vaping, and it can be amazing the difference 10f makes to flavour and Vape .
It can be a faff at times, but when you get it right, it's great imo.

What nickel wire are you guys using I know there are two types annealed and tempered am I right in thinking tempered would be easier for a first time tc user like myself?. Might try and swap one I of my reels of kanthal for some nickel as I know a few people have tried tc and didn't get on with it.

To feel the effect of pre-heat have your DNA at a wattage where it is staying below temp then turn off temp limiting. You will find that with temp limiting on you actually get a warmer vape as it boosts for up to a second and then levels out to the wattage set, but from a higher temp so the coils is already warmer, you really notice the faster heat up to, obviously. It is a bit like a roiling start for a racing car, results will vary between builds but I have yet to find one where the difference in not obvious.

Tempered is less pliable and a bit more like kanthal but does not have the internal stress that makes kanthal springy.

Controlling the temperature of the coil makes logical sense to me when it's heat that is required for vapour. Throwing a constant power to a coil with many variable around it doesn't, even then your coil is running at temp, you just don't know what it is and it will change depending on how full or not your tank is.
Edit... "consistent" Is the word I was looking for...!
