I hear and read that Aldi and Lidl are hurting the big supermarkets but round my end this doesn't seem to ring true. There are three small towns I can shop in. One has a Lidl and a Morrisons, the second a Lidl, Asda and Sainsburys, the other Aldi and Tesco. But Lidl and Aldi are always a lot quieter than the others. They've been around for years now and business has been more or less steady, while it's only the last couple of years that the big supernarkets have struggled. Are Aldi and Lidl more popular where you live?

Yer heaving down here too, although that might be more to do with the lack of checkout operators. The budget supermarkets have taken a massive share of the top fours profits over the past few years, you only need to look at he recent Tesco profit warnings and shop closures to see that. I suppose that some are more popular than others in certain parts of the country but as a whole they are doing some serious damage in the food retail sector. Tesco are adapting their whole business structure to cope with the losses, not something that a company of their size does without cause for concern. Morrisons and ASDA are doing the same after a slow start. BTW, you've not heard the last of Tesco's woes yet. In a while they are gonna get more bad publicity due to dubious shelf edge pricing strategies and potential fines. Tesco shares - dump them now

Yes we have a few Aldi stores here, and a new Lidl opening next door to a Tesco convenience store, I know where I will be shopping Aldi is always packed but the checkouts are quicker than other stores. I will have a choice all within walking distance for me, Aldi, Lidl, Tesco and Co-op, so I will shop with my feet to get the best deals.

I stopped using the big supermarkets a couple of years ago except for purpose trips with a strict shopping list. so drop in once every 2-3 months, to stock up on larder essentials like tins of tomatoes/beans, juice (the drinking kind), sugar, and teabags. bread milk veg and meat i buy from small local shops as and when needed, the savings are incredible No huge weekly shopping bills and no weekly dumping of unused out of date whiffy food from the fridge. its the lazy wander round the aisles thats the wallet killer you see you like and you buy.. stick to the prepared list and save cash to squander on vape toys

EK has both Aldi & Lidl and very popular they are too. I certainly don't need a supermarket with 40 different baked beans brands or 20 different digestive biscuits brands, so I think that the cheaper shops will really come into their own in the next year or two.

Both the Lidl's & Aldi near me are very busy. If anyone hasn't tried the bread & buns that Lidl's now bake in store, do so. The bread taste like home made bread & the jam donuts, for example are just perfect IMHO

Two Aldi's in my town and always packed, I swapped as soon as the first one opened and my shopping bill has pretty much halved to be honest, tried lots of their own brand copycats and can't fault them, the only time I go elsewhere is if I really *need* something specific that Aldi doesn't do as their range isn't huge but it does stop the 'see it and buy it just because' that I used to suffer from in Tesco's

Aldi was chocker on sunday morning within 5 mins of opening (which reminded me why I let my wife do the shopping normally), while the car parks of our morrisons and asda had plenty of spaces left. Waitrose seems to be less affected though and always seems pretty busy.

Waitrose seems to be less affected though and always seems pretty busy. Happily we are . . . . though it's a tough, hugely competitive market to be in and no one is complacent within Waitrose. We've a ' core ' of customers who will only shop with us - online or in-store, most people I encounter shop in a number of supermarkets depending on what deals are currently being offered. Myself included.

I mainly shop at Lidls as its nearest but it has gone down hill over the years. They used to sell great spaghetti, dried apricots with no duff ones, kische - good replaced by poor, latest thing they replaced their good tissues with rubbish ones.

Every 2 weeks we get a delivery from waitrose ( only tinned dogfood muttamus will eat is their own brand ( along with Oscar dried food ) ) Pop into lidl couple times a week for milk bread etc. Frozen meat comes from www.musclefood.com/meat.html ( great prices and really good quality if you go for the offers and deals) Fresh meat from local butcher and veg from greengrocer if Mrs pops down town.

We shop in Aldi,Iceland and Farmfoods.Very rare Morrisons, every time I enter there end up with cart full with things I don't need. We have Tesco as well, but not my favorite for shopping.Ideally would love to have Asda in our town. I am very picky on what I eat, read my labels and watch my calories. thatguy fed up shopping with me.Usually he wonder around and give me peace.

Lidli/ asda for us, all our veg comes from a nice old gent in the village all grown on his allotment, some of it might not look as good as supermarket veg, but it tastes a lot better.
