The thing is once GWX.exe is installed it will automatically download Win10. Whether it installs it is another matter. If you don't want it surely you don't want to download it?
In the config.xml it's checking a page on bing that'll be active when 10 is available, and will automatically download it.
It's damn good to get that flag out of the system tray - was using RAM just sat there using my broadband to chat with bing.
Microsoft describe the update as 'optional'. Yet in Windows update it's classed as 'important' and will download automatically.
I personally class this as MalWare. There's no way to disable it through the startup folder or msconfig.

that seems crazy that they would force people to download a most likely 3gb+ package though, theyre gonna b causing big networks to crash like that lol, i find windows updates sometimes are so slow too, like 30mins-1hr+ wait just to see if updates are needed sometimes, didn't seem like that in the past.

The way it's been with the support of their previous OSes I'll give it just 12 months after the release of 10 that they'll stop support and updates for 7. Then shortly after that they'll stop support for 8/8.1
Strictly my opinion^^^^^^^

Nobody is forced to download anything. There's a simple setting in update to "let me choose".

This must be a first for Microsoft, just finished with setting up the new Win 10 and bloody hell everything works as it should, in fact I predict it will likely be as popular as XP was. Everything seems nice and fresh, yet uncluttered, even the new version of explorer ( Edge) seems user friendly I like it, a big improvement over 8 or 8.1, download and set up took around 2 hrs, programs etc seem to be loading a lot quicker, despite me transferring all my old files across. Cheers

Think I prefer the "it's here when you want it" approach that Apple take...
Totally not going down the which os is better route but I don't want stuff forced down my throat.
But both os providers are good at making stuff not work till you do upgrade
