I got fed up waiting so I tried the '3 finger salute' which failed, so I reverted to the 'one finger salute' it is now 'Upgrading windows' and 2% complete...

I might check it in the morning to see how it's getting on

The one finger salute did the trick, it has upgraded and in the brief look I had it all seems to be working.

Only made one alteration, disposed of Bing not that I intend to use Internet Exploder, nomatter WHAT new name they give it

Does this very long update process require any input from the user, or do you just set it going and get on with your life while it grinds away?

same as normal just need user input location and thats it as all other info already there

Well, I had a trouble-free and not too lengthy install.

The only problem I have now is that my display driver is stuck on full brightness and I can't turn it down

With all microcraps resources, they can't determine location via IP address?  Even a lot of open source and hobbyist systems can do that.  Can't wait to being forced onto this OS in the future (when  look forward to a microcrap OS, satan will be ice stating to work.)

Click settings/ then click display notifications apps power/ you should see a slide bar with adjust brightness under it
See if you can change it from there.

Yeah I've been there, the slider slides but the brightness doesn't alter
I've tried looking for another driver but that didn't work either

Tried that too, even tried installing some older versions of the driver.

For now it's sunglasses and a rapidly draining battery

Definitely sounds like a driver issue
Is there no software suite from the manufacturer that will give you the functions?

Mine is fine using the windows adjuster but the keyboard light adjuster buttons have stopped working. That'll probably be fixed in time as manufacturers respond to windows 10

Edit- just fixed the buttons in keyboard properties - God knows why, I never use them
