goneforagasper, My parents had a 1956 version in Bristol Fawn. They paid £95 for it in 1963 and Dad made Mum go to buy it because he was too embarrassed.. We went for miles in it, and even managed 60 mph downhill with a following wind once or twice. I do remember it taking us over 6 hours to get to Somerset from Southampton. On the other hand, it would climb the side of the house if asked.

goneforagasper my Ford Pop was a little later than yours... then soon went for the 'sporty'... ...which is why I love watching 'Heartbeat' and their panda cars. Edit: These are stock photos, not my actual ones unfortunately. PS... My mate had the Cortina, which we managed to flip onto it's roof, just as Tony Blackburn was saying 'drive carefully out there' on the radio

That is weird, because I remember my first two cars reg nos, and even my HGV when I was driving back in the 70s, but can I remember any of them since, nope not even my current one which I've had for over 15 years. I guess it's because we don't love them like our first ones.

My first car was a Triumph Herald - due to being so short I couldn't reach the pedals properly or see over the steering wheel so I had to have a thick board on the floor under the pedals and I had to have a thick foam cushion on the seat to raise me up above the steering wheel Thank goodness you can alter the seats more these days

A Renault espace which cost a fortune to repair and maintain, vauxhalls which were sheds. Am on my 5th car, my 4th Vauxhall and I think I've unjinxed my luck with motors ( now just jinxed this one for upcoming MOT!)

toots another mate of mine had a Triumph Vitesse, which at the time, was one of the faster cars around. It was all kitted out as a 'passion wagon' for him, although it did have an 'Esso Tiger' hanging from the mirror. None of us had more than a few years driving experience, but he used to scare the living daylights out of us when we were in the car. How did we survive?

I had one of these, but ex-GPO Telephones. It was the relief van, so had hardly any mileage on it and it was almost pristine. My father was a bank manager, and a customer of his was starting up a business transporting vans like these down to Cornwall, doing them up and selling them on. We went to see Claude Holman (yes, the business still survives!), and he sorted this beauty out for me. I travelled from Cornwall to Leicester where I was at University for almost 3 years, including a trip to France, and it ended up with the cab cut off as a tool store in my local garage in Bushby, Leicester, after a coach pulled out in front of me and I slid down the side before he drove off without even stopping!!
