We spend much of the day giggling like schoolboys, hurting each other with various personal safety/defence techniques that we've discovered and want to try out (we teach these as part of our work), giggling some more and then trying to decide what stupid toys/gadgets one of us should buy or attempt to make next! It's a good way to be! Sean

Not so much geeky MM... more very large schoolboys! You know the type... "that looks interesting/dangerous/risky/forbidden/painful/stupid - let's give it a go and see what happens!" The problem is that Geoff and I are so alike that we egg each other on and it normally ends with one of getting physically hurt! Sean

I can get it apart for you... but I'd only be interested in the connector and would trash the circuitry with my trusty dremel (and I know you want the switch as well)! Once you've got one Geoff, we'll get it into work and dismantle it. It'll probably get killed but we'll have an idea of how it's laid out inside... if you only get one battery though - that's a different ballgame! Sean

OK, it seems I got my wires crossed (no pun itended!)... The switches weren't ready, my 'wizard' needed some completed boxes to work with so he could understand the system and space restrictions... should have something viable by next Friday. The button is still an option and so is my preferred touch sensor set-up. This will be with two sensors that you bridge with your fingers to complete the circuit and is the route I intend to take. The single touch sensor version is possible but I won't be going down this road. It's possible, but very cost prohibitive! It would require a custom circuit board to be designed. Once this is done, the single sensor will cost pennies... but the development of the first switch costs... £250! That's a lot of boxes to just break even! Sean

On the subject of leaving your batteries in the charger... It shouldn't do any damage to your battery at all as long as you're using an 'intelligent' charger (and protected batteries). By this I mean a charger that knows when the battery is 'full' and so stops charging. Most chargers used with e-cigs and mods appear to be the intelligent type and most batteries are protected. They sense the battery is full and automatically switch to trickle charging. The best way to describe it is to think of a sink with a well-fitting yet very slightly leaky plug. This is your battery as batteries very slowly 'leak' their charge over time. Next you have an 'intelligent' tap... you turn it on full and it begins to fill the sink. When the sink is full, the tap senses it, and turns itself down to just a drip. As your well-fitting but slightly leaky plug allows the water to drain, the tap drips in to the sink, therefore constantly keeping it topped up without overflowing. That's pretty much how an intelligent charger works. HTH... Sean

It's easy Perpy, you just screw your battery straight into the bottom of the unit, atty into the top and it tells you what voltage it's at... The 'home made' version just needs to be screwed into the battery I believe. Going to build a couple anyway just for kicks (as I have now made contact with the seller!). Sean

Yep... looks like pretty much the same thing. So I'm guessing this thread can be binned as there's little point in building one that's already available for around the same cost. It's a good thing actually because the the ebay listing for the display has ended, there aren't any more for sale and I'm not getting any response from the seller! Sean
